Just trying to feel if PATs go to FA for LBs where they might get some
experienced LBs as they have in past years

Here are a few FA that will be available as of now.
ILB:

Nick Greisen 3-4 D - Backup for Baltimore

Brad Kassell 3-4 D - Saw him do some good thing for the JETs

Niko Koutouvides - I know several here were high on him when drafted

OLB

Clark Haggans - 3-4 D getting older but young for PATs.:) Colvin Replacement?

Calvin Pace - Big enough OLB for PATs D - probably asking big $$$

Victor Hobson
- 3-4 D - PATs seem to go for taller bigger OLBs but has experience and done well. Is a possibility

Any others you feel could fit in PATs D?

Greisen sucks, pass on him. Victor Hobson is a definite possibility. Has played well in a Belichick 3-4 with the Jets and has had some good games against the Patriots in the past (including a monster game two seasons ago). Greg Ellis is a possibility as well, though I don't know if Dallas has released him yet.

Greg Ellis isn't going anywhere? He had a great season last year at OLB, you know the same position we just trimmed down on yesterday.

I heard Victor Hobson on Sirius NFL radio last weekend. He seems to be very interested in playing for the Pats and defended them profusely about Spygate. He indicated it looks like he won't be going back to the Jets.

I think he would be a great pick up. He knows the Pats' system. He is versatile enough to play any position in the 3-4. He won't be all that expensive. The guy had 100 tackles, 6 sacks, and 1 INT in 2006.

That's not what I heard. Rumors had it that Dallas would be cutting him loose.

The guys at Patriots.com tend to think he's the best fit for the Patriots. If we can't get him, I hope we can swing a deal for Bobby Carpenter. I'd like to see how Belichick, Pees and Capers can coach up the guy.

Must have been 2-year old rumors.

Nope, as was mentioned, about one month old rumors. Ellis had a very good, maybe even Comeback Player of the Year worthy season last year, which made it sound odd to me too, but if he is cut loose he'd be a great pickup.

It's widely known that Ellis is unhappy in Dallas, and is likely to be cut and move on.

2 LB's I can see the Pats going after are Calvin Pace and Adam Seward, 27 and 25 to help rejuvenate the LB's. Draft Cromartie after dropping down to the early teens and pick up some extra draft picks.

We should be keeping our eye on Hobson. He has decent size and he's not going to break the bank in FA.

If you sign him and you go into the season with Seau, Hobson, Vrabel, Adalius, Woods and a couple rookies, you're not doing that badly.

"any position"? If so I could see him at ILB. maybe Brus replacement if he retires.

There is no real player available in FA as an ILB, the two best options are to re-sign Bruschi and Seau. Other then that, Dan Morgan and Jeremiah Trotter are the two best options and that tells you about the lack of quality there.

The real talent at LB is on the outside led by Calvin Pace. Clark Haggans and Victor Hobson are nice fall back options if we can't sign Pace. A dark horse to watch for is RFA Andre Frazier of the Steelers.

IMO Hobson fits more inside then outside. He lacks the long arms to set the edge against OT's and keep contain. He seems to protect himself from blockers well, though - a necessity for playing inside in our system

Over his entire NFL career he has played less than 10 snaps at ILB and 1 game at ILB while at Michigan (2002 Bowl game).

How about Kendrell Bell. He stunk in the 4-3 at KC, but when healthy was a beast in Pitt's 3-4 at ILB. He doesn't have any health issues lately. Worth a look?

Was just omw over to post that. He has proven that he can perform effectively in a 3-4, provided that his skills aren't totally gone.
