Mitchell..Florence..Dyson in FA?? Somehow I do no think so..maybe a bit unrealistic?? And I wonder how quickly either coiuld get integrated into the Pats 3-4.

I guess James Sanders must be having a really bad training camp.

Gholston had a GREAT combine. He may have just gotten into the top 5.

I guess James Sanders must be having a really bad training camp.

Sanders plays well, however, if Rodney is sticking around, I can't see how Meriweather does not take over Sanders spot. From what I saw, he has better range than Sanders, and has a nose for the ball. Got his hands on a lot more balls than Sanders...he just needs to hold on....if he had a set of hands, he would have picked off at least 3 last season.

Well BB has drafted DBs and started them that year.
He hasn't drafted an LB that would start that year.
I think he keeps with history. New Starting LB(s) will come from
FA is my guess or he will use what he has.
If when they draft, if he has a choice between a top CB or
a top LB(DE conversion project)
.... he'll take the CB is my guess.

I wouldn't touch Dyson, K. Mitchell or Florence. Replace them with V. Hobson, Randall Gay and B. Kelly/Law, and you're on to something.

Jets fans don't think that Dyson ever recovered from his foot injury a while back. I'm not sure that getting Jets' injury castoffs is the best way to upgrade the defense.

With the release of Colvin and Brady's eventual restructuring, this team has the cap space and draft picks to put a new look on the defense.

I would like to draft Gholston and have him develop into our Ware or Merriman. In year 1 he could be a situational pass rusher while learning from Vrabel, Thomas, Seau, etc.

In rounds 2-3 we could land 2 CB's and an ILB.

Free agency would allow for LB depth and a veteran presence at CB, with Law being my first choice.

I would like to see our 2008 D prevent a Manning from scoring a season-ending TD.

I still like the idea of bringing in Clark Haggans.

Dyson is a solid dependable 2nd corner. For some reason Mangini just had him in the dog house all year long. Possible from the Plax stiff arm which led to a TD. He is not spectacular and has a history of injuries however he does a solid to good job when in there. Hobson as well is a solid to good player who does his job but is limited athletically. Two guys who could be solid signings

I liked the idea initially, but Haggans didn't do jack last year. He was an invisible man. Youth over experience if the experience is an on-field hologram like Haggans.

OLB: Thomas, Vrabel, + draft pick (Gholston, Rivers?)

ILB: Bruschi/Seau/Hobson rotation

Possibly sign Clark Haggans of Pitt if he's willing to accept some sort of role.

Agreed, the starting safety crew is either Meriweather/Sanders or Meriweather/Harrison. Neither Sanders or Harrison have the speed and range of Meriweather, which is the reason they drafted him, and the reason he's perfect to play as FS in their system.

The way I see it:

If the Jets draft Gholston:
Sey-Wilkfork-Warren
Vrabel-Bruschi/Seau-FA-Thomas
Hobbs-Sanders-Harrison-Your favorite rookie CB
Else
Sey-Wilkfork-Warren
Vrabel-Thomas-FA-Gholston
Hobbs-Sanders-Harrison-FA

Depending on the pats going off in FA like last year then it's almost necessary to bring back Bruschi or Seau or draft a LB in the first round

ILB: Bruschi/Seau/Hobson rotation

This is a recipe for disaster. If we're playing Bruschi and Seau on the inside again... well, that'll just be depressing.

Also, why would the Jets draft Gholston when they have more pressing issues on their DL?

Hobbs-Sanders-Harrison-FA

Meriweather and Sanders should be starting at safety, IMO, with Harrison taking Sander's spot on obvious running downs.
