No need to panic, but the Pats' front office has a lot of work to do.

Paxton is a FA

O: 26
D: 24
ST: 2
Total: 52

We'll have 80 or so by training camp, so maybe 15 through the draft and 15 other signings?

Look at any team's roster at this point and you'd say the same thing. The Pats are in great shape. Just think - there's hundreds of UFAs out there that aren't represented on any team's roster you'd look at.

OK. So I included one UFA. :) [But seriously, do you honestly see him going anywhere else?]

We'll have 80 or so by training camp, so maybe 15 through the draft plus UDFAs and 15 other signings?

Needs
2 LB
2 CB
2 WR

Assets
13M+ in cap space before restructuring contracts
8 draft picks (4 top 100)
Organizational draw for free agents (seeking championships)

I don't think I'll be jumping off the ledge today...

Actually, it's closer to $23M ($6M cap space from Colvin, about the same total from Stallworth and Washington). But, I'm with you on the no-seppuku thing. :)

Not "or so!" Assuming all draft picks are signed, it's 80 flat. No squabbling with NFLE and NFLE Bonus exemptions this year. Thankfully.

Sorry, once you get above the "more money than I will ever see in my lifetime" level, I can't keep track.

Another thing, the draft is fairly deep in CB and LB prospects. Not so much in WR but I don't think they saddle Tommy with a new crew again this year (talkin to you Randy).

True..it is 80 this year...but the draft picks do not count until signed..so they can bring in UDFAs for a look see and cut them as the draft picks are signed..They jave done this the last few years..as a way around things..NOT worried at all..the team is in good shape.

kelly washington hasnt been cut yet.

I don't believe the Pats paid him a $4 mil. bonus that he was due

and that automaticly terminated his contract.

I think Mike Wright will be a UFA, essentially. I can't see him receiving the second round tender. He was a UDFA, so I'm not sure the point in the base tender for an RFA, except the right to match. Since he hasn't resigned yet, he likely wants to test the market. I think he'll end up somewhere like Cincinatti, who are likely switching to a 3-4 base.

There's no rule that says they must offer him a tender; they could just as easily sign him to, say, a Heath Evans-like deal. In any case, though, seeing as they're giving Jarvis Green about $3M this year, I could see them paying $1.4M for Wright (especially since he has a fair amount of speed for a nearly 300-lb DE). [If you want to look at it another way--the low tender is $927K. For an extra $490K, you can guarantee yourself a second-round pick if someone really wants him badly. Plus, I could see Belichick doing it just to screw the JEST over a bit.]

I think I said that, since they haven't resigned him yet, I think he won't be tendered at the 2nd level and will test the waters as a UFA. I don't disagree that he may still resign in a few weeks, but I'm thinking he gets a better chance to play in a base defense somewhere else.

RFA tenders aren't due until this Thursday. FWIW, Reiss expects he'll get the second-round tender.
