BRUSCHI TO RETIRE SOON?
Posted by Mike Florio on February 24, 2008, 9:37 p.m.

One of the rumors making the rounds at the Scouting Combine is that Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi will soon retire.

Keep in mind that it’s only a rumor at this point.

Bruschi was a third-round pick of the Pats in 1996, and he has been with the team during five Super Bowl seasons. He suffered a stroke not long after the Patriots won their third Lombardi in February 2005.

Man it would suck if he does, would be a blow to our Defense for sure.

Not a blow, but a loss in the locker room. Bruschi was (sad to say) a weak point on the D last year. He'll be remembered as one of the best Patriots there ever was, but his time in the NFL has passed I think :[

Well Bruschi's better then other options at ILB...cause we dont have any so Im lookin at it as a blow.

Say it aint so, say it aint so.

and since this a rumor maybe he will

PFT also reported Moss was a likely surprise cut at the end of TC last year.

When it comes to the Pats, I take anything PFT says with a shaker of salt. In other words, maybe it's true, but I'll wait until I hear it from #54 or the Pats.

This could be a good thing. At least they'll be FORCED to address ILB in the offseason.

I wouldn't call it a good thing but what you said is an upside of it, if true.

I think it's a good thing. Now I won't have to watch one of the best Patriots of all time two steps behind a running back or getting lost in coverage.

It's time for Bruschi, IMO. I'd rather him go out after a respectable season than him try to hang out and suck ass next year.

He may be approaching JAG-territory on the field, but his locker room presence is invaluable, and he has a lot of value simply for hte fact that he knows our defense inside and out. If this is it for him, I just hope that the team has him back in some other capacity next year. It looks like there may be quite a few new linebackers on this squad that will need some instruction.

I'd prefer to have him there for depth, but it's simply not a big loss when it comes to talent. Simply move Vrabel inside with Adalius, grab a OLB and you have a much improved LB corps.

Paging Roman Phifer! ;)

Bruschi is likely gone. Colvin is back. It seems that we are stronger for the upgrade, not weaker.

And a few years ago what was it like when they KNEW TedyB would be out...TedJ retired and the ILB situation was not good...

:( This would be a sad day for me if true...

Would be sad but not unexpected. I kinda hope he does, for his sake. The body can only take so much.

Teddy Bruschi will always be one of my favorite players!!!
Played with desire, intelligence.

took a BIG hometown discount to stay with the Pats (this clearly cost him a lot of income).

came back from a devastating medical condition.

Probably one of the most loyal Patriots players ever.

Regardless of his play, I will be very sad to see him retire. He was abig part of the this run.

In the be careful what you wish for category, the last time Tedy told the team he was retired and they addressed the ILB spot, I recall it didn't work out so well.
