I know its early, but in adressing the draft and free agency, the FO has to think about which players they already have that could become an important non ST player.
The choices: David Thomas, Oscar Lua, Mike Richardson, Pierre Woods, Eric Alexander or Willie Andrews

I think Mike Richardson will have a chance to step up big time. he was having a very good preseason until his injury

Asante Samuel in his first year with the Patriots only started 3 games, only 8 in his second. It wasn't until his third year that he stepped up big time.

I think that Richards could have a big year as a nickel/dimeback.

andrews will be cut soon

It's tough to say. You're right about Richardson.
I would like to see Osca make a significant impact.

One point about this thread is you remind us that Pats
have a deep well and water they haven't drawn from yet.

Pierre Woods and Kyle Eckel.

Meriweather. Dom's going to teach him to catch, & he's going to be special.

Based on roster make-up I'd have to say Richardson. He and Lua are going to have the best shots...If Kyle Brady though misses time because of his shoulder surgery, Thomas could get some significant time.

David Thomas is going to have a big season, he will finally be able to stay healthy and show us the kind of receiving skills that he really has. He will make Ben Watson expendable once his rookie contract is over with.

Thomas - Injury riddled, don't know why everyone is so crazy about someone who has done nothing sicne they played the Jags last 06

Richardson - He'd be decent in the nickel I think as well, lets hope he stays healthy.

Oscar Lua - People really think a 7th rounder who did absolutely nothing last year is gonna have any kind of signifigant role?

Marcus, truth be told Samuel didn't become what he is today until his 4th season. 05 Wasn't anything special for Asante. He started, but it wasn't close to what he can do.

I think it will be Richardson, but I am really hoping C. Jackson finally steps up!!!

Merriweather - as rodney said he needs to spend his off season with the jug machine. But he is not under the radar.

Hobbs will be good and he is under the radar or in the dumps depending on your fanism.

Lua even in drafting day was slow and will not cover TE .He is a thumper run stuffing LB in college so i can see him start out as that in runining down and develop .But not a lot eric alxender i think is bigger and faster [realitive ].But he was the play caller in defence so can develop into tedistyle MLB .

Woods/Eric have the best chance woods need to be in rotation with colvin and vrabel. or AD/[Bru/Seau/Slaugter] pair

There was a day when Samuel kept dropping INTs. That alone tells me as long as Merriwather stays healthy he's gonna be a play maker. Now thats a dude I'm really excited to see.

Someone buy Merriweather a Nerf ball like the one AS practiced with before the 2006 season.

Absolutely Merriweather. You better believe if BB picked up a saftey from Miami in the first round, his expectation would be hes similar to a Ed Reed ( BBs fave ) or Sean Taylor. Very excited about him. Just needs some work on his hands...as everyone points out. Also, looking forward to seeing something out of C. Jackson. I was so excited we drafted him, so it's his time now to step up and contribute.

Umm . . . he played in all but one game in 2006, and was behind Watson and Graham on the depth chart. He had a freak injury in training, was brought back (IMHO) a little too early, and re-aggravated the injury. Losing one season to injury hardly makes him "injury-riddled."

Oscar Lua - People really think a 7th rounder who did absolutely nothing last year is gonna have any kind of signifigant role?

Maybe it's being overly optimistic, but, if the Pats felt Lua brought nothing to the table, they could have just given him (and Richardson, for that matter) an injury settlement and let him try to latch on with another team.

It may be cheaper just to put them on IR and not giving them a chance to thrive on another team.

On a side note, I don't think we can criticize or Lua or Richardson at all since they didn't play a down. They still have work todo, but they could turn out nicely.

why not Chad Jackson or Brandon Merriweather?

meriweather once he has learned how to catch

i thought andrews could have been part of this, until he was caught wit drugs the idiot

lua- people rate him highly but hes a 7th rounder and was on the PUP for most of the season, i do not have high hopes for him

Tom Brady.....
