It seems that he would have to have a really bad workout at the combine for him to be available at 7.
it doesn't help that i could see every team above the pats taking him.
this is going to be a very interesting draft to say the least as it will be itnerested where mcfadden and matt ryan go. hopefully they go in the top 6 so someone drops to the pats.
hello Mr. Buttersworth.
For all intensive purposes, i tend to agree with you.
Who's he going to bump down the board?
Chris Long
Jake Long
Glenn Dorsey
Darren McFadden
Sedrick Ellis
Matt Ryan
Also, since when has the second rated DE/OLB been considered a lock to go in the top 6? I'm not saying he can't go in the top 6, but I believe your opinion (and the opinion of some others) is false.
You have it backwards, Gholston's a physical specimen and a raw player, so he needs to put up good/great numbers at the combine, or he could slip into the 8-10 range. The Jets selecting Sedric Ellis makes more sense by the way.
Frankly, I believe a lot of fans overrate him slightly. Yea, he was good in college and he's what you'd consider a physical specimen, but he needs to improve his tech, improve his pass coverage and range, and work on a few other areas of his game. The fact that he's raw could go in his favor (in that teams might be able to mold him), but it could (and probably should) go against his being selected in the top 5-8 picks. I don't like the idea of giving a huge contract to a conversion project who hasn't proved he can be an EVERY down 3-4 OLB.
Intents and purposes. There is nothing intensive about your purpose.
Gholston will be there at seven.
i would be fine with McFadden being drafted by the Jets.
I like watching Mike Mayock and he is usually right. He kept talking about how he wouldn't even put McFadden in the top 20 b/c of his leg strength and how he just stops when he gets hit.
Let the Jets have him.
I really hope Jake Long drops, i could see the pats taking him and trading Kaczur for a ham sandwich and some cool ranch doritos.
Can Ellis play NT at 308?

Who has Belichick taken in the first round who had to change positions ? There's a few small changes due to scheme but nothing like DE to OLB.Demarcus Ware and Shawne Merriman were conversion projects as well, were they not? They were taken 11th and 12th, respectively. If Gholston tears up the work-outs I don't think it's ridiculous to assume that a player who had better numbers for a bigger program and is comparable in measurables would be taken four spots higher. I mean, Belichick and Pioli have shown they aren't afraid to take a conversion player ahead of where he was supposed to be picked.

No-one is saying Gholston CANNOT go in the top seven - they're just saying it's 50-50 at best that he will and pure folly to say his definitely will.
They don't just need a NT...
I know I didn't answer your question, but I really want you to look into it yourself, as you'll realize they're in the market for players to fill multiple positions on their D-line, and they're thinking of moving one of their current D-linemen to OLB...
You actually just proved my point..
I said the poster had it backwards in thinking it would take a bad combine for Gholston to slip past the Jets, and he's not a "lock" to go that high. I think he'll need to show good in LB drills (is he doing them?), and put up good numbers in order for teams to think of taking him that high. I didn't say he couldn't go that high, just that I'd think twice about it, and he'll have to prove his coverage ability is up to snuff before I'd take him that high, as an EVERY down 3-4 OLB.
You're talking about two physical specimens who put up great numbers, and were taken 11th and 12th overall. So, my saying Gholston (the second ranked DE/OLB) isn't a lock to go in the top 6-7 seems a lot more accurate.
What conversion player have the Patriots selected in the top ten, or first round under BB?
Seymour
Watson
Mankins
Wilfork
Graham
Meriweather
Maroney
I can spot at least one semi-conversion on that list (because of the change in scheme and his responsibilities), but he also kind of proves my point. Taking a conversion project in the top 5-10 is a risk, that's why most conversion projects aren't off the board until the second half of the first round. Also, the conversion projects who were taken in the top 10-16 picks were in fact physical freaks, and put up outstanding numbers at the combine.
