The use of the term 'We' from ANY football fan

I try my best to use it as little as I can but it still gets a bit irritating when you see posts like 'WE' should draft so and so or 'WE' should sign Randy Moss to an extension or why did 'WE' not win the Super Bowl? ect,ect,ect:

Does the use of 'WE' as a fan irritate you just a bit when you read a post saying 'WE' should have done this,or do you think 'WE' is acceptible?.

All I know is that 'I' am only a fan just like 'YOU' and its 'OUR' team but have no say in anything that goes on and the use of the term 'WE' becomes fantasy as if in our own minds we think that any of us have any input or any real importance into this organization with the exception of yelling and rooting for the team and buying logo stuff ect:

Just kidding. I always try to avoid the first person when discussing the Pats. But sometimes I slip into it, and it doesn't bother me when others use it.

WE directly support and keep the franchise alive by buying tickets and merchandise.

As U.S. Citizens, we say 'we' are americans.
Well, in a way, I consider us members of Patriot Nation or Red Sox Nation.
I think it is easier done in NCAA athletics as you are truly a member of a 'team' as an alum. Like Carolina and Dook fans often use 'we' and 'you' when arguing with each other.
Regardless, there are too many other things to get annoyed with than the use of the first person.

We pay the bills when its comes down to it through the purchase of tickets and merchandise and through ratings on TV. You think Bob Kraft would keep paying the bills if 68,000 of us didn't show up at the stadium every week and pay $169 a ticket or $8 for a beer? Kraft makes a profit on the team, the players make millions, we are the only ones who actually spend money on the team and don't get anything in return except for our enjoyment.

Players come and go, Coaches come and go, even Owners come and go. We the fans are forever. In reality it is more OUR team than theirs. The NFL seems to have forgotten this, but if it were not for us there would be no team and no NFL for that matter because they rely on our money.

So no I don't have any problem at all saying we. I don't need to play for the team to be part of Patriot Nation. Long after Brady, Moss and Maroney are gone I will still be here.

actually fans that attend games can make a difference in penalties in a game if they're loud enough, so there does exist a collective 'we'

I definately think we should work hard in the off-season to make sure we don't let another slip away. Especially regarding the off-season weight training program. I know we'll be sore, but we should bust our butts and just deal with it. After all, what do we have to lose?

Who really cares? I don't think anyone is so deluded that they think they're part of the team, and often fans are more vested in their team's success than the actual players who are there to get paid. It's easier and stylistically it looks better than constantly repeating "the Patriots."

Great post...agree 100%. We are all Patriots...the team is nothing without supporters and as such we ARE part of the team :rocker:

Its just an expression. Like when Kraft refers to himself as a caretaker rather than an owner. That simply acknowledges the fact that long after Mr Kraft moves on to the next life the Patriots will still be here.

This in no way interferes with my bein' 100% ready to step in a MLB if some sort of movie-like Super Virus wipes out 90% of the New England population.

Count me among those who does not consider being a fan as being part of the team. I prefer to refer to the Patriots as my team. I enjoy it when THEY win games.

It's amusing, though, when fans of one team come to the board of the fans of an opposing team to congratulate the opposing team's fans on a good game. And the fans of the opposing team, basking in their greatness, admire the classiness of the fan of the vanquished foe of 'their' team.

I don't mind it when others use the term WE, but the WE'ers tend to imagine themselves to actually be part of the team -- second guessing the brain trust. In reality, fans have no more insight into BB's Black Box than the media.

Sitting in the cold at the Razer is not the same thing as being carried off the field on a stretcher, kids.

For the amount of time, passion, and loyalty that I give to this team, I use the term 'we' and feel justified in doing so.

The only thing that slightly bugs me is those who use the term "we" when things are good but "they" when the going gets rough.

The goal of every sports team is to develop a fan base that lives and dies with the team, and identifies so strongly with the team colors as to feel part of the family. IMO snobs who criticize fans for using the term "we" have no soul.
