I used to really like foster
and, I think we all remember his diving td in sb 38, he definitely has a lot of athleticism
but, he just never put it all together, seemed to be way too inconsistent
he has been released, and if he could be had cheap i wouldn't mind taking a look at him
we don't desparately need him as we'll have sammy morris coming back, but if he could be had really cheap i wouldnt mind taking him (or mewelde moore) as the successor to kfaulk (who's not getting any younger, and has shown how important his role really is)

Re: Deshaun Foster, anyone? (Kfaulk successor)

I'd prefer Mewelde Moore to Foster. As you said, he looks good at times, but simply hasn't been able to put it together.

I mentioned in another thread it would only make sense for them to add Moore and go with 5 RBs (LM, Morris, Faulk, Evans or his replacement, and Moore) if they carry one fewer WRs.

I think Moore is versatile enough in the passing game to work as a hybrid threat.

Foster's more of a poor man's Maroney than he is a potential Faulk replacement.

i too agree that i'd rather have moore
whenever moore has had to start or play extensively, he's done nasty (similar to sammy morris)
but i wouldnt mind foster either

Foster's more of a poor man's Maroney than he is a potential Faulk replacement.

He's similar to Maroney in size but Foster has good hands and is dangerous after the catch like Faulk and he is also a strong pass blocker like Faulk. Maroney has good hands as well but is a little suspect as a pass blocker. Foster is fast and powerful and has the speed to turn the corner. He attacks the LOS and runs with good leg drive and balance plus he is tough and seems difficult to bring down with one guy. He does have durability issues though and maybe would be better suited to a role as a 3rd down back.

Re: Deshaun Foster, anyone? (Kfaulk successor)

He'll be looking for @3 million a year ... I don't see it. I think both Maroney and Faulk are better at what they do than Shaun who's a tweener.

Re: Deshaun Foster, anyone? (Kfaulk successor)

foster is good but the pats are fine at back with maroney faulk and morris

Being in Carolina I have seen a lot of Foster. I'd pass on him; we can do better. He has not shown much at all the last few years.

If he was the superstar you seem to be making him out to be he wouldn't be on the unemployment line.

i like him but he doesnt bring anything we dont have yet so no thanks, save the cap.

however..i loved that play in the superbowl. awesome nice in endzone.

Ah, probably not. he doesn't bring anything to the table Maroney can't provide (remember he's still developing), and I don't see him as a Faulk replacement, sorry.

To be honest this is the year to draft a RB to either rotate with Maroney, or potentially replace Faulk (in the future). If you look at the list of RB's in this class you'll notice a few different guys who could fill the role Faulk has provided, and there are a few power back who could potentially replace Morris (he's not young either) in future rotations. Also, some good RB's should last into the 3rd/4th because of the depth at the position.

So, I could see NE adding another RB through the draft this year.

i like foster, but we dont need a replacement for faulk. we already have someone to eventually take faulks place. how soon we forget. now everyones scratching their heads:D kyle eckel!!

I do think Foster would be best used somewhere in a Faulk like role, just not in NE. Plus, he has a fumbling issue.
I wanted the Pats to DRAFT Moore when he came out, I remember I was all hyped when it was reported that BB had dinner with him around draft time.

Yeah Foster is more in line with Sammy Morris's running style not a 3rd down back that faulk is, that being said I think he is a slight upgrade to Morris.

I never said he was a superstar, I only described his strengths and how they tie in to my feeling that he is well suited as a 3rd down back. He does have weaknesses like being impatient and he does have some fumble problems. Also, just because a player is released doesn't mean that the player is worthless. Jabar Gaffney and Heath Evans were two players released by their previous teams before we picked them up. Those two obviously have been strong contributors to our team and have tremendous value. Some strong NFL teams have been built by signing guys on the "unemployment line."

I am in complete agreement. Get Mewelde Moore, as soon as the clock strikes midnight.

i dont disagree at all
but if foster or moore could be had at close to the vet min, i really wouldnt mind bringing them in for a look
its not a bad thing to have too much competition at a position like running back

but why though? Faulk was tremendous this year. yes age is 1 thing but hes producing and isnt slowing down noticeably

I don't think the addition of Moore means Faulk is gone. The team could carry 5 RBs.

So which RB would you cut to make room, given that the team carried 5 last season?
