Changes To Offense To Keep Brady Healthy?

I dont know what you are watching. Brady got hit less than almost any QB in the NFL this year.

Sacks ... why is everyone hung up on sacks. It's the knockdowns that take their toll and Brady got the crap beat out of him. But, if you think it's normal then whatever.

I think the previous poster's point is that even if you do look at hits rather than sacks, Brady hasn't taken as much of a pounding.

I'm not saying he's right, merely that he could be.

Judging Brady's health from around the Eagle's game to the Super Bowl I would say Brady was hurting pretty bad. Brady won't say it but nothing about him looked normal so I think it's safe to assume he was hurting and it was more than the ankle.

I don't think any line can keep their QB healthy when you pass like the Patriots do. I'm fairly certain we'll see some changes to keep Brady healthier down the stretch next year or we'll be singing the blues again.

Interesting.

Peyton Manning seems to have held up pretty well through the years throwing the ball 30+ times per game every single year of his career but 2005.

Manning tailed off this year also...word was he was banged up.
keep digging until you guys find where QB's getting killed is a positive thing.

Yeah, Peyton has really tailed off the last couple years. Those back to back 4000 yd 30 TD seasons are probably going to get him cut.

Despite not having Harrison for much of the season, Manning:

had a 98 quarterback rating, compared to his career avg. of 94.7

threw 31 touchdowns, the 4th time in his career he tossed 31 or more

completed 65.4% of his passes, compared to his career avg. of 64.2

had a 12.0 y/c, the same as his career average

Once again you speak wisely....:rolleyes:

I am starting to wonder if some of the people in this thread watched any Patriots games this year besides the ones televised at night.

P.S. Sacks may not be an accurate representation of how often a QB is hit, but they are often an accurate representation of overall pressure.

The day we have to worry about changing the entire team around to protect "Baby Brady", is the day "Baby Brady" should think about becoming a backup QB.

Like I said, this is football. Tom is tough, and I would go so far as to believe he is tougher than many other QBs playing right now. He would probably laugh harder at this thread than the rest of us, especially considering how well our OL held up against some of the best pass rushes ever seen in the NFL over the course of the season.

Losing Morris hurt the offense. He was a monster before he got hurt. Getting him back will help a lot.

Yes ... thank you for the compliment.
Peytons's QB rating since 2004 ... another prolific passer who gets
blitzed alot ... many knockdowns have his rating going down while the
team actually got better ... all the hits taking their toll on the man.

2004 = 121.1
2005 = 104.1
2006 = 101.0
2007 = 98.0

BTW ... in the Patriots last 6 regular season games and 3 playoff games
Brady had 6 of his worst QB ratings for the year ... and all totaled he averaged a QB rating of 74.4 for those 6 games a full 43 points below his season average of 117.2. ... looks like someone who was hurting to me.

McD, Brady and BB have an entire offseason to think about how to adjust to how teams are playing them.

I'd liken it to the Pistons and the "Jordan Rules". I don't like the word "blueprint", so I'm going to call them the "Brady/Moss Rules" - which are: beat up the receivers as much as you can without getting called for it (the refs were more than happy to oblige to this one down the stretch :mad: ), shorten the field, and get pressure.

Seems like a no-brainer, right? Well, yeah, but only the Giants were able to WIN with that blueprint. Still, nonetheless, the Pats will find a way around the "Brady/Moss Rules" just as MJ did.

I'm expecting to see more of either or both of the following to neutralize the "Brady/Moss rules":

- A more conservative approach, more running, more 2TEs, short passing, play action, more intermediate routes for Moss, incuts, slants, posts.
- A short passing attack, 4 or 5-wide spread where Brady gets rid of it before any pressure can get there.

The best thing to do for Brady is to re-sign his receivers, and give him a bit more depth at running back. We need to be at almost full strength with one running back hurt.

Re-sign Moss...I am happy to let Stallworth go, he didn't do anything in the second half of the season and Chad Jackson will be a much more well rounded wideout.

As for backs...I'm loving the Maroney-Morris-Faulk combo...everyone keeps throwing Mewelde Moore's name around, wouldn't mind that but I don't think it's necessary.

The offense is pretty much set once Moss signs - they could, and probably should given Neal's injury, upgrade the OL through the draft & I do think we'll see some changes in the offensive philosophy - but in general, there's no reason to think that what was dubbed "The Best Offense Ever" will not continue to be just that.

It wasn't a compliment. In order to make your assumption, you have to be so clueless and/or biased as to ignore every other factor involved and, even then, you can't even get a 1:1 correlation, nevermind determine causation.

But you feel free to ignore weather and injuries, as well as opponent's played, and pretend that you have a point.

I'm drafting a LT in the first round. If it's after a small trade down or not, fine.

Whoever has the best combination of upside and ready now between Clady, Otah, Williams, I'm taking him. Assuming he's ready to go then I'm moving Light to RT. Pro Bowl or not I think I've just upgraded two positions (assuming the scouts get me the right guy). Not only have I upgraded both Tackles but I've improved depth at Tackle and Guard as Kaczur can play both.

If you want to say I'm overly optmistic, fine, but when there's 3 (I'm assuming Long is gone) OT who are expected to go between 8-20, I think we can reasonably expect to draft the non bust.

I'm with you up to the moving of Light. I don't put the rookie on the left side.

This is a pretty good group. I understand they'll all be rated lower than Joe Thomas was last year but he barely allowed a sack; if we were talking about a 3rd rounder then I would feel differently. With our scouting, coaching and Mankins next to him I think we could get it done especially as all three are considered good pass blockers.

I like the thinking and I think that's a good option. I'm liking the sound of Branden Albert - OG or OT I guess - and its making me more pissed that Goodell robbed us of #31.

Trading w Chicago is our best bet, #14 and #44 would suit us, we can address OL and CB in the first two picks, the rest of day 1 can be devoted to OLB and ILB.
