Do you think the Patriots are even in talks with Asante's agent at this point?

No, BB does things his way. Asante's agent is a $$$$$$$ guy. So I am sure he wants to be in negotiations, but probably not. I see Asante heading the way of Lawyer Milloy. SEE YA! Hope he will enjoy making alot of money and never playing in another SUPER BOWL again. SEE YA, WOULDNT WANNA BE YA!

Possibly.... but probabably talking two different languages. BB/Pioli have a pretty established history of cutting high salaried defensive backs. Law coming towards the end of his 7 year backloaded contract and tried to break the bank in 2005. Belichick cut him loose. Milloy was unwilling to restructure... likewise, gone.

Assante's return resides somewhere between slim and none imo. Samuel's stance is pretty clear "it will take alot". I don't blame him and I would hate to lose him, but this is probably his one and only shot at huge money... it is what it is.

I expect the Pats to make a low ball offer on 2/28.

Just as the post states do you think the front office is actually looking at 08 as if Assante could be part of the grand scheme?

Here's your answer:

Asante: No surprises

INDIANAPOLIS -- Alonzo Shavers, the agent for CB Asante Samuel, said this morning that he doesn't expect any last-minute negotiations with the Patriots that could result in a contract extension.

So that all but assures that Samuel, as expected, will hit the open market when free agency begins Feb. 29.

"Right now, we have our target and we're waiting on the 29th to kick in," Shavers said.

Shavers added that he's leaving all options open, meaning that if Samuel does not receive an offer close to what he's seeking on the open market, he could potentially return to New England.

Shavers talked about how Samuel is approaching this period.

"It's very exciting, when you're one of the top guys in the market and you work a lifetime to be in this situation," he said.

Yeah folks he could be going going gone!
Thanks for the memories, but you'll always be remembered for contributing to the only loss of the season.

A lot of people will be remembered for that one loss, including Belichick, Brady, Rodney, Hobbs, etc., ...

Why don't we wait till their careers are over before we make a bold statement like this.

If we do, it won't make the statement any less true.

I think that Asante's agent knows what the Patriots offer is and that's probably somewhere between 8-11 million per. So Asante will see what the market is for him and if the offer is way beyond the Pats he takes it if it's comparable he comes to the Pats and tries to see if they will either match or raise close to it. But both sides respect eachother and know this is the process that must take place. Make NO MISTAKE the Patriots feel they are a better team with Asante than without, nomatter what the fans think.

Just as well, anyway. According to Reiss, the Franchise salary for CB is $9.46M. I really wish that something long-term can be arranged, but not at almost 9 1/2 M per annum.

I just don't understand why people have a problem with the financial side of this business. It's not your money people!!!!!! If the Patriots feel a player is worth 9 million+ then who are you to say they are wrong? It's the BEST Professional sports organization in the world and we question these guys???

Id say that there is a take it or leave it offer of 5yrs 35 mill or something like that for him.. But I think they reserve the right that they are moving on..

Why would they offer him $7 million per year annually when they gave him $7.79 for 1 season last year????? He has to get a raise from $7.79 million now.

I'd like to trade for a cornerback like a deangelo hall who i believe can be a upgrade.

So instead of paying Asante, you would rather trade away a first day pick to get a corner who's looking for a new deal in Asante's range and who is not even close to being as good a cover man and has an extremely bad attitude that cost his team?? Why!!!!

Asante deal is pretty finished. He will move on with another team. Pats will use its 14 mil to find somebody else and improve the team.

Now,we have all the coachs in place. Let see if Pats can find some good players.

any information on Randy Moss.?
