SAINTS MAKE OFFER TO THOMAS

It's two visits, two offers for former linebacker Zach Thomas.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the New Orleans Saints have made Thomas an offer to join the team. Earlier this week, the Patriots offered Thomas a contract.

Schefter reports that there's a feeling that the Saints are the favorites to land Thomas, who was cut by Miami last week.

Other teams interested in Thomas include the Cowboys, Broncos, Texans, Jets, and Bills.

I've heard that enough to take anytime it's said with a grain of salt. He'll visit the Cowboys next and they'll be the new favorites. The agent (in this case, one of the most shrewd in Rosenhaus) drops the hint to up the deal for the next team in line. That's how they make money. He could end up with the Saints, he could end up with the Patriots, or some team like the 49ers could come out of left field and scoop him. You never know.

Exactly

Two visits, two reported high interest. Mr. Agent trying to get the money?

Let someone else pay him more than he's worth.
Does anyone think the Pats offered him anything more than the vet minimum with some
performance incentives?

I doubt any other team will either. The reason Rosenhaus is posturing like this is to try to get some team to offer something better than that.

Yea, Rosenhaus is trying to trump up interest in his client.

I watched him on TV earlier today, and he said something like "Zach's a hot commodity right now", and "he's received strong interest from a number of teams".

Since when has a soon to be 35 year old LB coming off concussion been considered a "hot commodity"? It's true that Zach's a good LB, and I'd love to have him on the Patriots, but Rosenhaus makes it seem like Zach's worth a boatload of coin right now, and the truth is (considering everything I just mentioned) he's not.

Exactly. I'm not holding my breath we're the absolute favorite to grab em', but Drew is doing what an agent needs to do. He's looking for the money and he's moving his client all around talking him up. All we can do is wait because everything is mere smoke at this point.

If he values winning and wants a ring, NE is the only choice.

If right now he thinks he has 3 -4 years in the tank and is still chasing money, NE is anything but the place.

Its ok, landing Thomas would be nice, but Taylor is the Dolphin I think we all most want.

I LOVE Zach Thomas as a player but I think his talents would be wasted in our defense.

Very simply, the Saints can offer him a full-time job. The Patriots can't. If Zach wants to be the main man on defense, he'll go to the Saints. If he wants to be a cog on a Super Bowl contender, he'll go to the Cowboys. If he wants to be a cog on a Super Bowl contender and humiliate the team that unceremoniously IR'd him, than cut him, he'll go to the Patriots.

This makes sense to me that the saints would be the front runner. As you said they can offer a starting job, he wuold be closer to home (if his home is miami which i would imagine), 4-3, and while the saints fell off they were a game from the SB and it wouldnt be far fetched to expect them to make another run at it.

That sums it all up...somehow, I think he'll go for the most money..but you never know...
