Re: Patriots hire Dom Capers

Just found this on Wikipedia: He was also famous because he kept a 17 hour per day work schedule and sleeping just five hours per night, often on a couch in his office.

5 hours of sleep? BB has some work to do. :D

Re: Pats hire Dom Capers

excellent pickup. I'm giddy. Doesn't this make you feel that this is going to be a heavy defensive draft for the Pats?

That's what I was alluding to in my Moss thread. Belichick is going back to his roots of old time football ... heavy "D" and a smart and calculating offense.

best news we've had in a while

Huh. Actual football news....and GOOD news at that.

Is it Christmas or something?

Great move. I wonder what that mean for Pees. Pees seemed to have gone from heir apparent to Belichick to losing some responsibilities. It was a little damning for Pees to see Belichick working with the first defense all the time when the Pats' offense was on the field.

I have a feeling Capers could be DC in 2009. It should help free up Belichick so he can be more involved with the offense as well as the defense during games. I never ever remember Belichick ever be so univolved with the offense during games even under Weis as this year.

Re: Pats hire Dom Capers

Yup. I just got this feeling...if you thought 2007 was the GFY tour, just wait for 2008...

Belichick will be handing out lube ???

Re: Pats hire Dom Capers

i think this is the start of the defensive rebuilding just like last season and the offence, imagine we come back next year with the best offence scoring the most points, and the best defence with the lowest points conceeded

great move but if our D becomes great as hoped then capers will be again on the list of teams to hire as head coach. i will take that chance for our D to be good.

:)

That's definitely known as a GOOD PROBLEM.

i dont know about Capers being a DC. Isnt his scheme quite similar to what pitt runs with lebeau ? i may be wrong. BB's scheme is totally different so unless A)BB decided to change schemes(very unlikely) B)have some inventive ideas of merging them like he did with our offense(which could be very exciting), its difficult to see capers as a DC.
and if even if he becomes a successful DC, he will be in line for HC jobs soon.something we have been dealing with forever .

Tomase says Capers is replacing "Joe Collier."

Sorry Tomase, you're mistaking the son for the father.

Re: Pats hire Dom Capers

This is so awesome. Capers is a 3-4 mastermind. I wish he was the DC, but I'm sure he'll have tons of imput on defense. It also means we'll be knocking some QBs around this year, a la the Blitzburgh defense he ran. Great move.

So fustrating as a fan to see our inept pass rush. Especially with Jarvis who is a very capable pass rusher ... hope he gets utilized more because he doesn't hurt you on the run either when he is in there.

Re: Patriots hire Dom Capers

Good point. Maybe Pees isn't the answer for our DC.

Now let's get Charlie Weiss back from ND! (joking...sort of)

I'm not joking (about Weiss)...can you imagine what MORE charlie would have gotten out of the offensive powerhouse that we had??

Yeah....overall Pees hasn't been stellar......from what I have been reading here and on other boards .....people are praising us on the move....but most everyone is curious as to why you wouldn't just go with Capers as your DC......we shall see what the great BB thinks

o7 we score the most 08 we allow the least. 09 ? who knows:singing::singing:

i just read capers turned down the cowboys job and took ours. thats interesting.

Remember, the position coaches have a situation job as well as a position. Mangina used to do most of the blitzes, Pepper did most of the 3rd down defenses. As you're suggesting, Capers should help a lot on the blitzes that were either non existent or a step late last year.
