"Reiss is being used by Belichick to set up the latter's line of defense"

That's pathetic. I didn't read it all the way through, but they can't handle that some of the hometown media aren't going to join the crazed witch hunt. When they portrayed Senator Specter as the hero i stopped reading.

Why does Farinella say Belichick went on the offensive with a "condemnation of Walsh"? He just said he wouldn't recognize him and he didn't order any filming of the Rams walkthrough, how is that a condemnation.

Who gives a crap. Spying is a sports tradition. Its been that way forever. Thats why they change signals, have headset radios, block their mouths with paper. Jeez, what a shock, Bill is better at it than anyone. These people who think its a big deal should become WNBA fans.

Article: "Reiss is being used by Belichick to set up the latter's line of defense"

As opposed to all the media that realize their own teams have been cheating for decades yet conveniently ignore that in order to crucify the organization stopping their team - and their careers - from getting their moment in the spotlight?

Reiss is just a reporter - he reported. I suppose one could try to fault him for not asking certain questions but we know BB and Pioli wouldn't answer them anyway.

Regardless, it's clear to me that what Pioli and BB are doing is making clear that this former employee would record conversations - and who knows what else - covertly and without permission.

If he does have tape he got from sneaking into a closed practice, the terms of his firing are VERY relevant in demonstrating that he had a history of covertly recording without permission from the organization.

Unless he has proof that the was instructed by the Patriots to record practices or anything else, his revelation won't mean much, especially since the Patriots actually got rid of him when they found that he was inclined to take such actions without authorization.

Thats the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Reiss may be getting used but it is in a good way.

Reiss earned that interview with his hard work and honesty. They chose him for a reason a reason. They wanted to use him because the fans in our area trust Reiss and that gave it more credibility

I would say this whole thing is the opposite, the media has been set up to do the league's dirty work and screw the Patriots. Both in September and again with tomASSe's pre SB "article".

LOL! I still don't get how anyone would think Scott Pioli would open him and the Patriots up to a huge lawsuit to defame Matt Walsh without some evidence to support it. The Pats may in fact be in a smear campaign on Walsh, but it doesn't mean that the smear they are spreading isn't the truth.

I still don't get why that Walsh can throw out innuendos that he has the goods on the Patriots without showing a shread of evidence and allow the illusion that he has the walkthrough tape by his lawyer saying he has tapes, but won't confirm if that tape is one of them; but the Pats can't defend themselves and when they do they are blasted. There is enough evidence out there without what the Pats have said to raise at least a little doubt on Walsh's credibility. The guy isn't a 30-something ASSISTANT Golf Pro who got fired from the Pats for some reason for nothing.

This is what I got from that..... blah, blah, blah.... words.

I certainly hope he's enjoying himself - because the time will come, hopefully sooner rather than later, when he'll have to put up or shut up.

OMFG...They ***** when he doesn't speak to the media, and when he does he's just using them! Unbelievable:rolleyes:

By the way, where is the article stating that Mike Fish of ESPN is being used by Matt Walsh. Why is it the Pats are on a smear campaign against Walsh yet Walsh has been bragging to Fish that he has the goods on the Pats but refuse to give more details until he is agreed to be paid in form of legal protection to the end of his life.

Reiss did his job. He got an exclusive interview. He was fair and balanced and let Walsh's side respond to what Belichick and Pioli stated. That is more than Mike Fish did with Walsh.

In fact, even some of what Walsh describes to Fish as his job (being an area scout in Western NY) has been disputed by Pioli. Walsh also suggested that he was fired because it got back to the Pats that he made overtures to get video jobs with other teams in the NFL (none of which he got) which Pioli has also disputed. Maybe if Fish actually tried to contact the Pats before he got this story, he would have had a more balanced piece like Reiss.

so let me get this straight...of ONE source of media does whats right, and analyzes spygate, and how much of a non issue it is....

THEY ARE BEING CONTROLLED BY BB?

haha, i mean, the media was pathetic up to this point....but NOW? now it doesnt even want differing opinions on a subject? LOL, now that is hilarious

so youre either talking and lying about spygate 24/7, or your being influenced by the pats org

priceless

Felger, who contended for a long time that BB needed to just come out and deal with it, has spent the last 48 hours spinning just the reverse - that this is all spin obviously born of desperation that just underscores how much trouble they are in and means Walsh has to have something they can't explain away because he was their employee whenever he created or acquired it. All the lemmings who have as little access as Mike are lining up in lockstep because all they have left is this better be a story...

They can't or won't grasp that Spygate was a limited incident investigation relating to the on field video taping of coaches signals in violation of a Gameday Operations Manuel provision or the league's interpretation of it or the memo that superceded it. Belichick admitted the practice had been engaged in throughout the course of his tenure here. He sitpulated that he had turned over all tapes in the teams posession as well as any notes complied as a result or simply documenting defensive signals irrespective of how those notes were created. Harshest penalty in league history meted out as a result. END OF SPYGATE I.

Spygate II is a seperate and distinct issue irrespective of what the media or Arlen Specter or anyone wants to spin it as. Companies aren't obligated to investigate every rumor that surfaces absent some form of concrete evidence that it isn't baseless. Even governments don't do that. If Walsh had something of interest it was incumbant on him to notify the league. He chose instead to hint to reporters that he might have something, or he might not. He might have tapes, but if they are of defensive signals they are worthless since that matter was closed and the tapes are in his and not the teams posession which means he's also a thief. If he has a tape of some teams walkthrough, he will have to explain how he came to possess such an item. And if he cannot prove he was authorized to do so on behalf of the NEP, or if they can prove he absolutely was not, then that tape too is worthless. He could have bought it from Snoop Dog...

Somehow I think if the media were forced to deal in hypotheticals of their own, like would Mike Felger be responsible if the rumor that I may start that one of his minions snuck into competitor Glen Ordway's home while he was on vacation and planted listening devices that picked up some strategic conversations he figured his boss would reward him handsomly for acquiring... Oh no, Felger and ESPN would disavow any and all knowledge of what some misguided wack job producer wannabe did with no prior authorization from them. They would can the guy and claim you could not possibly hold them responsible for felonious conduct that was not undertaken at their direction unless you could prove beyond a reasonable doubt it was.

And even if they kept this clown on the payroll for a year after he bugged Ordway's house, they would claim indignantly that they let him go because they eventually realized he was an underperforming employee and potentially loose cannon only when they caught him bugging Mike and Sara's bedroom. And while they distrusted him sufficiently to have him sign a non disclosure agreement on termination they chose not to litigate because that can be messy and they had no knowledge of his taping Ordway's house and the proof was/is he still has the tape.

Those who persist in trying to make more out of this than reason remotely justifies are just jealous of this teams success or frustrated with their media access policies. And while some of them really wanted more to be made of Spygate I, they would have likely been satisfied with the outcome had Bill not been embraced by the fans, his players and ownership in week two and then proceeded to go 18-0 on the road another Superbowl. That just ripped it and demanded something else be done to show this SOB what being a closed mouthed, tight assed genius nets you. Hence, Spygate II. Pathetic in it's simplicity, which is why so many seemingly intelligent people apparently can't or won't just see it for what it is.

The Sun Chronicle is supposedly a MA paper? I've never heard the name before (admittedly I am not from one of the six towns identified at the top of the article), so is it one of the papers handed out for free in grocery stores?

Since most of the national and local sports reporting has gone down this track, I suspect this guy is not looking to leave the discount rack for larger venues. He probably needs to focus his attention on outscooping his likely competition - the local high school newspapers.

get this spygate over. I'm tired of hearing it.

Belichick and the Pats went on the offensive?? What a joke line. The media was begging, pleading, criticizing BB for not saying anything about this story and when he does he is going on the offensive?? Reiss is a very fair journalist and one who reports the news story not tries to become one, like most of these writers do. Reiss believes that how he goes about his work defines him as a writer not how he manages to write a controvercial story that will bring more attention to his name.

A douchebag is born! I'll bet he's going after Tomase's gig.
