Will Moss get tagged or are we working on an extension which the Pats can only present him w/on the 29th (1st day of FA)?? The Pats have been quiet on this and most teams have tagged their guys which leads me to believe a long term deal could be in the works.

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

I would be shocked if they don't tag Moss, then continue negotiations from there.

I agree with you. They could still re-sign him to a long term contract

after February 29th or before July 15th.

why in the world wouldnt they tag him??? they just wont let the best reciever walk and get nothing, at 7 million and change the tag is reasonable if they dont get a long term deal done

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

How insane would you go if they let him walk for no compensation?
Would never happen but I think at least 80 percent of Patriot fans would be on suicide watch.

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

I would go absolutely nuts if they let Moss walk. I mean, I'd be taking a trip to the top of the Pru.

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

It would be rude to tag Moss ... he came here for a discount.
Slapping the tag on him would be the wrong message to future
veterans willing to come here for a year on the cheap.

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

I don't think Randy will be tagged. I think the Pats will let him test the waters and make his own decision. And I believe Randy will then decide to stay with the Pats. He will only play for a team with an elite QB and a good shot at the SuperBowl. That narrows things down a bit. Also, if they tag him then I do believe it would be with Randy's support.

This is a popular myth. Moss didn't take a discount. He was willing to renegotiate his contract in order to get traded. No one was paying him Raiders contract value in 2007. Not the Raiders. Not the Pats. Not the Pack. No one.

And I don't think it would be rude to franchise him. I think Moss would realize he was only being temporarily franchised so that the team could negotiate with him exclusively.

It's not like the Asante situation where the perception was the tag was used to hold him and place and milk one year of service out of him at a "discount below market" cost.

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

I have a feeling there is a real chance Randy could walk.

I think BB/Pioli are NOT going to franchise tag him.
I suspect that they may have had an agreement that they would not apply the tag to further motivate him to produce this year.

If he is not tagged...some team flush with cash will absolutely blow him away with a huge signing bonus. It is supply and demand. Moss is a difference maker and other teams saw what he did for Brady and the PATS offense.

If he does not reach agreement with the Patriots befor tomorrow and he is not franchised...he will get an offer too good to turn down from another team and he will walk.

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

Please let Al Davis continue the madness and not franchise Asomugha.

I agree. Franchising him is just a start and they go from there. I'd rather sign him long term, but we can't afford to let him go, and after we let go of Stallworth, we'll have the $$ to afford the franchise tag if it comes to that.

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

Yeah i'm sure Brady would be thrilled were cutting Stalworth letting, Moss walk, and letting Washington test the waters.
That's like a ugly guy giving a hot girl a house, car and jewelry take it away and say but you still love me right?
Well something like that.

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

Put me in the camp that says you franchise him and then go from there. I really don't see Randy going from model citizen back to malcontent in one year based solely on that. I'd still like them to get a longterm deal worked out, but my first priority is assuring that he's on the Patriots in 2008.

What makes you suspect that they had such an agreement? Nobody has ever said anything about it. What you 'suspect' really doesn't matter, unless there's some actual evidence to support it.

I agree with your last sentence, but the 'if' part kind of renders it null. The if won't happen. Moss is the second most valuable player on the Pats' roster; they're not just going to let him walk.

Moss is the second most valuble player on the pats really.

Sounds like an opinion and unless you have some actual evidence than your opinion really doesn't matter. :D:D:D

There might be evidence he is one of the most valueble but I think second most might be an overstatement. I would argue that Wilfork is more important to the Patriots than Moss. Than kind of talent on the deline makes the defense work properly. While Moss made the offense work more easily it is Brady who makes it work properly.

I completely agree that my opinion is NOT fact.
I offered it only because, Randy seems like the type of person who would NOT respond well to being franchised.
I think that BB/Pioli know that Randy would not eb happy if he is franchised and having randy on a team where he is not thrilled and have to pay him a great deal of money is probably not a goood option.

Pure conjecture on my part

this is pro football,a business, BB and pioli arent Dr. Phil and wont worry what randy will think, they promised samuel not to franchise him i highly doubt it if they promised moss too, who would be next brady???? just let all your good players walk out the door because you dont want to get them mad or upset makes absolutely no sense to me ,and im sure to BB and Pioli as well

Re: Deadline to use the franchise tag is 4pm tomorrow

My nightmare is that the Pats let both Asante and Moss walk. I'm fine with letting Asante walk, but if both of them walk, I'm going to be livid.

You let him test the waters and he will be G-O-N-E........This is a business....and if Randy Moss can find another playoff bound team that makes an offer to him....he is out of here.....We will use the tag on Moss and perhaps work out a longer contract during the year....
