Call me crazy...

I for one, will be praying that our team loses the first game of the 2008 season.

As much as I enjoyed the '07 path to perfection, I cant get away from the fact that I think it came back to bite us.

Does anyone remeber after losing to Buffalo 31-0, after losing Lawyer Milloy to them in the offseason, then finishing up the season with a 31-0 mirror whuping of the Bills.

To me, and I was at that final game, that poetic justice... felt sooooo much more satisfying than going 16-0.

I dunno, I just want that whole perfect season thing out of the picture quickly.

Yup your crazy.....

The goal of every team every week should be to win.

I can't picture BB sitting their saying well lets adjust our training camp and preason to reflect the fact that we are not going to try in the first week so we can get that loss out of the way.

If you asked me what is more important undefeated or a SB than I would say a SB but here is the catch yu can't go undefeated without winning the SB.

I don't get this "I hope we lose a game" stuff. Guys, going 16-0 is almost impossible. We will have those games where nothing goes our way and we will likely lose. We nearly lost 2-3 games this past regular season, but we got lucky. We would have to get really really lucky again to go 16-0 next season. So why hope for something that is almost certain to happen?

If Bill Belichick does a "tactical loss" at the end of the season, I dont know if I'll be pissed or what, we'll have to see...

BB would never, ever, ever do a "tactical loss" at the end of the season. He's not Tony Dungy, BB has balls and too much respect for the game to do that.

Being 18-0 had nothing to do with the OL play. It had nothing to do with the almost sack of Eli, the almost INT of Asante, the almost batdown by Rodney, or the almost game winning pass of Brady to Moss.

Enough with this "I want to lose" crap! Can't handle the "pressure" of a team you CHEER for being undefeated? Go watch friggin golf...but don't cheer for Tiger Woods, or you will be cheering him to double bogey on the 17th hole.

I would rather see more Spygate stuff than more of these sissy "I want a loss" threads.

Don't be afraid of greatness. I think that was one of the things I loved about this team. There were many ex-players that came out and said that they wouldn't want to try for 19-0 because of the pressure. I remember Terrel Davis saying that he would rather loose in the regular season because it would be less hurtfull if they were to then loose in the playoffs. Its a losers mentality and the same reason why coaches go conservative and often play not to lose at the end of games. The Patriots have never been that type of team and I hope they never will. They failed in this last attempt to go 19-0 and caught alot of flak for it but that is only because they came so close to it. They were 60 seconds away from arguably the greatest ever sporting achievment. When you come so close to such greatness how can you ever settle for anything but that same level of effort?

I agree with the posts that I want 19-0. I don't buy the pressure of going for perfection bit the Pats in the ass. In fact, I think the Pats were too loose if anything the two weeks going into the Super Bowl. I think going for perfection had anything to do with the Super Bowl loss.

2 examples,

BB decided to have a punt be longsnapped out of the endzone, I know it was to help us win, but that being said.... it was a backwards way of gaining an edge.

The Doug Flutie drop kick game against Miami, a game we could have won, and if we did the seedings would have been affected, I think that game was played to the seedings.... I know we could have won that game.



I dont want a purposeful loss, in another words throwing a game, I just hope we lose one of them. Dont think that perfect season had anything to do with the Giants winning?

Brady laughing at the idea that his offense would be stymied to 17 points or less, in fact he made a comment to the degree of, "Plax should have predicted 48-45" or something like that.

Junior Seau talking about playing for "ever", dood your playing the Giants not history books!

Teddy Bru, uncharacteristically talking about the perfect season, and not just the game in front of him.

Bellichick all loose at the Super Bowl, like he was at the Pro Bowl again.

Randy Moss letting a comment like, "after a 19-0 season" in regards to staying with the Pats post 2007.



The whole team, city of Boston (Menino and his jinx), fans, sportswriters (tomase-felger), it just seemed like everywhere I looked people were drunk with this whole perfect season..... shoot Kraft bought the trademark rights to "19-0 The Perfect Season"


when all we had to do was prepare for The Giants.



I think this whole perfect season garbage finally took its toll, look at how the offensive line played, look at the coaching adjustments to the Giants rushing attack.

The only bright light was our defense, and they seem to be the ones who are getting slammed consistantly.

Not meant as knock on our de because they played a pretty good game up unitl the end. But what about what you wrote above had anything to do with the team not making any number of plays, by my count at least 5, in the last two minutes that could have ended things perfect.


they were so close and to say that the persuite of perfection got in the way is outrages. They lost between the lines on a bad day but all the hype in the world had nothing to do with it.

They're only human--I wonder if the fact that they had won every game, DESPITE playing poorly in 2 or 3 of them gave them too much confidence. All I'm saying is that the adjustments were few and far between during the Super Bowl, which is very uncharacteristic of this team and coaching staff. The sense of urgency was not there, for whatever reason. The hunger did not appear to be at the level of the Giants.

They have been getting every teams best since they won the superbowl. And last year when we were not undefeated we were saying the same thing they were worn down from a long season and ran out in the second half of the colts game.

Except I don't think we were as worn down this year we just had a few injuries in the wrong places. But even still wasn't the sole reason for losing

A loss guarantees a SB win ... well there's a problem then. Half of the teams win on opening day thereby playing the rest of the season for nothing.
