2006 NWE 15 games 84 tackles 56 solo 28 assisted 8 sacks
2007 NWE 16 games 53 tackles 34 solo 19 assisted 4 sacks

Was he just hungry for that big contract?

Was he injured this year and we never knew?

There is a big difference between the years and the previous. Keep in mind Vrabel moved inside. Was Colvin just better on the left side and made Warren that much better?

HGH?

Your opinions?

Could be that Seymour missed 6+ games and then after Seymour came back and was not at full health they lose Colvin too?

I mean thats two of your teams best pass rushers, teams are going to know who to block at that point.

He's made of glass, I think.

i'm thinkin it's the seymour injury
let's hope he returns to form, cuz he looked great in 06 but very average in 07

Seymour was injured last year (2006) with an elbow and knee.

If Maroney was the missing man on offense, then you could put Warren's picture on the milk carton for the defense. We didn't hear much from him at all this year.

any theories on this?

I'm beginning to think we should keep colvin and left OLB and move vrabel inside and find another OLB for the right or use AD their occassionally

Re: Evaluate Ty Warren 2006 vs 2007

Teams are accounting for him more. Seymour was injured in 2006, but nearly as bad as 2007.

I know the perfect guy for the job. His name is Terrell Suggs. If he isn't franchised, almost every team will go after this guy. He is 25, can rush the passer with his hands down or standing up. I wanted the Pats to draft him in '03. If the Ravens are stupid enough not to franchise him, I think the Pats will pursue him hard. Teaming Suggs back up with Thomas will allow Thomas to roam around like he did in Baltimore. Just think on third downs that opposing teams would have to account for Thomas, Suggs, Vrabel and Colvin. If the Pats land Suggs and re-sign Moss, that will be a successful offseason.

And not to forget, I would like the Pats to draft Vernon Gholston with the 7th pick. He will tear up the combine and is the closest thing to DeMarcus Ware or Shawne Merriman.

It's amazing. Ty warren plays like an all pro when Seymour plays all year.

Golly, I wonder if there's a connection?

Re: Evaluate Ty Warren 2006 vs 2007

Our line does stuff that you can't notice unless you watch it over and over again. If stats measured how much Wilfork did for us then he would be a hall of famer already. Warren was getting blocked more and more because he commanded it. For me, even with Seymour at half mast the line played rather well. Except for a few games they did a fine job of occupying that O-line. Our linebackers seemed to lack the ability to take advantage what our line did. For example, Richard Seymour was killing Marcus McNeill in the San Diego chapter 2 game. I watched it over a few times, and Seymour just pushed him back further and further with every step 85% of the time. However, we didn't get to Rivers as much as we could have because our linebackers were lacking.

i did see some game film vs baltimore where they repeatedly had just a tight end blocking warren, one on one, and he was getting manhandled

i argee 100% seymour is the best DL in the game so when he missed all dose games ty was geting double teamed and when seymour came back he was not the same

I think some folks need a primer on the 3-4 defense and that this D line will not be stat driven... there are problems with this D, but not with the D Line.

Re: Evaluate Ty Warren 2006 vs 2007

Teams rarely ran the ball on Warrens side ... that's all it is.

Can anyone else confirm this? It sounds so out there that I probably won't believe it even if 20 of you beat me over the head with the game film.

I thought I'd look this up to see if I could confirm.

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/dl.php

Football outsiders breaks down the D-Line stats. Interesting to look at, folks can come to what conclusions they'd like about it. All football stats (especially defensive), even thoughtful takes on statistics such as this, need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Check out the last table:

For the Pats, they ran to the defensive RIGHT (offensive left) 25% of the time, and to the defensive LEFT (offensive right) 18% of the time. The rest of the time they ran up the middle.

So those stats would support the conclusion they ran away from Warren, but of course, teams naturally would run behind their leftside anyway. Again, take from it what you can.

Take a look at the table just above the one referenced above, which shows success to each side.

The Patriots ranked 4th in the league at defending the rushing attack to left end of their defense (right end of the offense) and 19th in the league defending the rush to the right end of their defense (left end of the offense). Seems to support that Ty Warren is doing his job.

Of course, if you look one column over, it becomes a convoluted mess, as you see when the offense runs towards the left tackle - so rightisde of the D - the Pats are only 27th in the league...

So ultimately, I'm not sure what to take from these football outsider stats as they pertain to Warren or to the Pats other than if you trust their word, the Pats are surprisingly middle of the pack in defending the run...

While I agree they wont be stats driven the naked eye tells me that our deline got a lot more pressure in years past.

I have two theories

One the deline played a little worse than in years past

or

The OLBers were getting the rush more meaning one of two things either they were creating the pressure before the de line could get their or the oline was showing our dline more attention than the outside backers.

Either way I still think the dline was great against the run. And With only 3 dlinemen on the field sometimes less it is not always their job to create the pressure. I guess the real gripe is that when it was obvious passing downs our dline didn't get much pressure other than that they had a great year.

Take a look at the football outsiders #s in the link I posted above and see if you can make sense of them and if it fits what your eyes told you about the DLine.

I was actually thinking about this a few days ago. Wasn't the force he was in 2006, but I think BradyManny is right.
