The Patriots offered a contract to former Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas on Monday, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Thomas and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, visited New England on Monday and will continue negotiations with the team. Thomas is scheduled to visit with the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday.

The Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets are also interested in bringing Thomas in for a visit.

Re: Shefter: Pats made Z Thomas offer

Well that's a good start! :) Now if we can keep him from getting on that plane to New Orleans!!

Never hurts to have another locker room leader and (Even at his age) tackle machine.

I would love this move.

Re: Shefter: Pats made Z Thomas offer

Unfortunately, the only reason an agent leaks information about an offer being made after a visit - and before subsequent visits - is when they're trying to drive the price up.

I much prefer situations where guys who want to be a Patriot visit, get a fair offer, and accept it, and cancel their remaining visits.

This report suggests to me that Thomas is looking for the highest bid for services, and generally I expect the Patriots aren't going to win that war.

Re: Shefter: Pats made Z Thomas offer

might work.....

Re: Shefter: Pats made Z Thomas offer

If he gets on a plane and schedules other visits, you can bet he won't be playing for New England. Seau might wonder why he played for $1 million if Zach gets offered a lot more.

like when adalius didnt visit san fran

Re: Shefter: Pats made Z Thomas offer

Has he left yet?? maybe there can be an airport delay....I do agree if a deal is NOT finalized, he may land somewhere else..

Re: Shefter: Pats made Z Thomas offer

this is what they said. Go to the other teams and tell us what they are offering, divide that by PI, then take the logarithm of the result. We will give you that and you will like it. KthxBye

Re: Shefter: Pats made offer to Zach Thomas on Monday

it might not necessarily be about money if he leaves. maybe the patriots have told him he will have a limited role. he might talk with other teams to see what role they are offering. if he leaves, it doesnt automatically mean he wants more money

That's what everyone said last year about Stallworth - who has/had the same agent as Thomas. He left NE and eventually signed here.

Re: Schefter: Pats made offer to Zach Thomas on Monday

On most levels, I'd be delighted to get him.

But I must admit that an ILB with concussion problems is worrisome.

Re: Schefter: Pats made offer to Zach Thomas on Monday

The Cowboys were the only team other then the Patriots on his "original" preferred list (Cowboys, Patriots, Chargers, Colts) so the chances would probably be lower for the other teams he is visiting, unless it is all about the money.

50-50 chance, I guess

Re: Schefter: Pats made offer to Zach Thomas on Monday

I hope they offered nothing more than the vet minimum plus incentives. Because that's all that I would pay him.

What's to worry about? Ted Johnson was great and he had concussion problems.:bricks:

Seriously though, I think it's great BB is willing to sign him because it means he thinks Zak still has something left in the tank.
That would make a very nice veteran rotation in that mlb position.

Re: Schefter: Pats made offer to Zach Thomas on Monday

Geeeeesh people! Stop worrying.... there is a reason why he visited the Pats first. Also, if he does decide to play elsewhere, the Pats defense will be okay without him.

Re: Schefter: Pats made offer to Zach Thomas on Monday

if he visits the Rats then chances are he'll fairly beg the Patriots to sign him...that experience would scar me for life...imagine...that stinking swamp, the G Men landlords laughing at you like an illegal immigrant every time you show up to play a "home" game...a fat stool pigeon head coach and players who throw each other under the bus and look for excuses not to play. Thomas wants no part of THAT nightmare.

If they get Thomas for vet minimum that would be ridiculous, use some common sense now. There is no way such a steal could happen.

Yup. And this IS Rosenhaus we're talking about here.

I agree.

It would be nice to have Thomas, but if he takes another offer it's not the end of the world. He is a 34 year old lb that has had a recent injury history.

Maybe you could get a decent year or two out of him, but he is clearly trending downward.
