Bob Ryan has harsh words for BB/Kraft

Perhaps Bob should have waited to talk to Reis first...

I love that the first thing Ryan says is: When this thing broke in September, the day of the Jets game, from that moment on, he has never fessed up, he has stonewalled it, we all know what his punishment was, but he has never addressed it, he has tried to pretend that it never happened, and that 'I just misunderstood the rules.'

And then that same night Reiss comes out with his story and BB basically answers everything.

And SVN, you made a great point in the other thread about what a great job BB did in deflecting this crap all season long.

he must be moving away from boston....either that or he hit the jackpot and doesnt need a job and can afford 24/7 security...

He's probably pissed that Reiss got them to talk about it and he couldn't. Some of these media people in this town are going reap what they sow very soon.

I saw the segment on ESPN this morning. It was kind of shocking to hear that from Ryan. He has been a pretty staunch defender of all that is Boston sports over the years.

Bob's got more important things to worry about, or he should have, like his late son's twins. Should have taken a more extended leave to deal with tragedy in his own life.

Try as I may though, I find it hard to have empathy for personally flawed know it alls who hide behind the passionate excuse, as Bob did when he screwed up on air professionally. Bob's best stuff has always been in print, where his editor saves him from himself. Unfortunately as newspapers dry up while more lucrative 24/7 on air sports commentary opportunities arise that force them to speak while thinking on their feet, guys who were born to write just make asses of themselves.

I am not sure what it is about sportwriters that leads to such arrogance, especially writers from the Globe. After Bob was humbled, I liked some of the stuff he was putting out but it looks like he is back to his arrogant self. Shank, Borges, Ryan, why do they all think they are better than the people they cover or the people that read the paper? You would think they would realize after Borges demise, that the paper will continue without them.

Bob is an idiot. I hope he gets the Borges treatment.

Im not going to comment on Bob Ryan ,due to his personal tragedy...

Loyalty is a wonderful thing, but it is amazing how kneejerk some of you people are. There is nothing wrong with what Bob Ryan said at all, and he made the comments a day BEFORE Reiss's story was released.

Bob Ryan doesn't know much about sports anymore, he shows up and gets a paycheck. He's the same guy that said the Celtics would have the worst bench in the league. I am quite sorry for the tragedy that has occurred in his family and my sympathies go to him, but he should be spending more time with his family now, less time on ESPN shows. I do not read Ryan much anymore as he has fallen out of touch with every sport he covers.

So let me get this right.

Instead of doing the legwork on the story (like Reiss was doing), he was in Daytona, Florida on national cable TV pontifficating about it?

So it's OK that the reporter who was getting the real story will be read by fewer people than the Skip Bayless Wannabe who was on a TV set in Florida bloviating the EXACT opposite of what was happening at that moment 900 miles away?

My faith in the Boston Media has been severely diminished, no one wants to do their homework.. just jump on the bandwagon..

Email him with this criticism. My experience has been that he answers his email, though not exactly immediately.
