In the Globe report, Belichick discussed the league's taping rules and bristled at references to "Spygate," saying what the Patriots taped was in plain sight to the public.

But Article 9 of the NFL Constitution & Bylaws states "any use by any club at any time, from the start to the finish of any game in which such club is a participant, of any communications or information-gathering equipment, other than Polaroid-type cameras or field telephones, shall be prohibited, including without limitation videotape machines, telephone tapping, or bugging devices, or any other form of electronic devices that might aid a team during the playing of a game."

and the globe quote
The rule states: ‘‘Any use by any club at any time, from the start to the finish of any game in which such club is a participant, of any communications or information-gathering equipment, other than Polaroid-type cameras or field telephones, shall be prohibited, including without limitation videotape machines, telephone tapping, or bugging devices, or any other form of electronic devices that might aid a team during the playing of a game.’ My interpretation was that you can’t utilize anything to assist you during that game. What our camera guys do is clearly not allowed to be used during the game and has never been used during that game that it was shot.

AP/ESPN conviniently added a single word and ommitted BB's explanation of his interpretation.

and it doesnt end there..

Belichick said he didn't address the Rams' walk-through issue sooner because he was trying to focus on the Patriots' games at hand.

"I wasn't comfortable talking about it earlier in the year because my No. 1 job is to win football games," he told the newspaper. "The more distractions there are, I think the harder it is to prepare. I thought the more conversation about this would just take away from what my primary job and our primary job is, which is to win football games.

"I felt like now, the season has been over for a couple weeks, there are certainly a lot of questions out there about it, I thought this would be the timely point to address it as opposed to during the season, at any point. Of course, it came up a number of times."
whereas the actual quote in the globe was why he didnt respond to the spygate story earlier.

ESPN is just riding the Rams story .Pathetic case of journalism

Can't say I am surprised, they won't stop until BB is dead and buried.
Pathetic.

egh, that's ESPN/AP for you

my friend just sent me a text message "so...belichick is f'd"

I called him back and no sooner than I said, "are you kidding? Tonights news is the best we've had in weeks" he interrupted me with "yeah i was watching espn and..."

amazing phenomenon, the spin. It's like night and day. I promptly sent him a link to the reiss article and he couldnt believe the difference. The important and obvious ommisions from the ap/espn. What a world we live in.

I, like everybody, just want the truth to come out, good or bad. But no matter what, it won't be reported responsibly.

Somebody should tell Mike Reiss and the Globe how their article is being twisted. Pathetic journalism.

Wow thats bad. I skimmed the ESPN article so I didn't notice that the first time around. And to think, I was glad they finally disclosed full quotes. Those bastards... Who the hell runs them bc seriously this bias is UNBELIEVABLE

I just sent Reiss an email informing him about this. I thought that he should know. ESPN is an absolute DISGRACE. I will never visit their website or watch any of their sports coverage again. They are as dead to me as the Herald.

I thought I avoided ESPN enough, but you're right. The only approach one can truly take with espn, is the same one a majority of us have taken on the herald. I will officially stay away from anything espn. Only reading what is posted here from now on....same goes for the AP

i avoided them since the SB till now . went there to check their spin and now will avoid them again.

Pathetic at best ... freaking nerds lashing out at athletes.

Guess the adage that bad news sells once again rings true, keep stoking the fire ESPN and AP.. it may help your ratings.. bunch of whores.

I replied to Reiss' reply to me, telling him how they are twisting what he wrote.

It's really a shame...I thought the truth shall set you free?

I just e-mailed Le Anne Schreiber with this thread linked and wrote that this deserves her immediate attention.

Am I missing something? He replied to you? What was his reply in the first place?

Then I wrote to him saying how ESPN is bastardizing his story.

Thanks, Blackglass. Please let us know how he responds to your second e-mail. THAT one could get interesting!
