I have wasted alot of time looking at all the 1st round sexy picks in this draft ... and none of them really make alot of sense. Not much difference once you get past the Long's and Dorsey Really.

If Belichick cannot find a trade partner then I say he takes McFadden. Belichick can wisely use the #7 pick as a #3 pick IMO. If he's at bat with Ryan and McFadden ripe for the picking you know teams will be calling like mad.

McFadden makes alot of sense for alot of reasons. He's a great back and he's also a competant receiver. Belichick could employ 3 wideouts and 2 backs in the backfield ... almost every down and have 4 receivers.

If Belichick puts McFadden and Faulk in the backfield he effectively has either 3 receivers and 2 xtra blockers or he has 5 receivers with 3 of them in the 5-15 yard range.

Call me crazy .. but great teams are built on value and McFadden along with the 2 Long's and Dorsey = maximum value. It's not a reach to say that McFadden has the greatest value of all in the draft. The Patriots are lucky that all above them have greater needs ... a McFadden may not be available to us for the next 10 years.

If someone moves ahead of us to grab McFadden or if Atlanta does not grab him he will be ours and the league will be in trouble for the next 5 years.

McFadden and Maroney ... Moss - Welker - Jackson/Gaffney ... OUCH!!!

There is no "value" at all in drafting a RB thathigh in a draft that is deep with RB. We already have depth at RB with Maroney, Morris, Faulk and Evans. Why spend a pick on a guy that fails to address a position of need? We need CB's and LB's. That is a fact. We could use a player to replace Faulk (gettin' a bit long in the tooth. Hart?), but in my opinion Maroney is the feature back for this team. I would be pissed if they spent that pick on McFadden. Livid.

The list ytou have at the end of your post is a great one--but the offense has put the Patriots in position to win the last two playoff games that they lost. The defense failed them.

In my opinion no way we draft mcfadden, he is reggie bush lite.
Who needs that?
For that price tag i'd much rather sign melweldee moore, if we need another receiving back.
We need a game changer on defense or another franchise tackle to protect Brady from anything similar happening in the superbowl ever again.
My ideal draft has us taking a pass rushing monster actually 2 of them one earlier and a raw project later on at least 2 early mid round defensive backs, a punter, a wide receiver project.
A real Fullback, and maybe discover a new antonio gates as far as a tight end who played for such a small school or played more b ball that he is a unknown.

Theres about zero chance McFadden would make it to 7. Even if he did drop past five which is almost impossible, mangina would pick him up in a heartbeat at six. He is a special player and he would just never last, especially after seeing how Peterson did this year. Hypothetically, if he did...which he wont, the ULTIMATE for ME would be to trade down with the Cowboys. Theres a lot of talk about how obsessed Jerry Jones is with McFadden and with 2 first rd picks at the Cowboys disposal this would probably be the ultimate dream scenario. Personally, I know Darrens special, but we need defense. Its our first priority. Second, McFadden's gonna be way too expensive. Big big contract. No way.

I do not believe that the Patriots will draft McFadden if available.

I believe Maroney is a good back who could be successful in the right system.
I do not believe he is made for the Patriots. I would not be suprised to
see the Patriots trade Maroney and get another running back.

I think Johnathan Stewart would be a perfect fit for the Patriots.
He is a physical back like Dillion with better hands.

I know Denver's Shannahan loves Maroney who would be perfect for their
zone blocking system. I wonder if Denver would give their first round pick for Maroney?

Laurence Maroney is NOT getting traded. Not a snowballs chance in hell.

There is a better chance of us getting Peyton Manning.

If he's there at #7 be preparred ... you'll see. The 2-back system is still expanding in the league.

In your opinion, if McFadden is sitting there at 7, the Patriots wouldn't try and trade the pick to say, Dallas, to obtain their 2 first rounders? There is just no conceivable way that I can see the Patriots drafting a RB at #7. No way.

the pats wont draft mcfadden he is the same back Maroney is a cut back runner with speed so he is Maroney with out the 2 yers of all redy playing in the nfl i think we ar set at RB ill take a fast DE that can be moved to OLB or a OT if not trade the pick

1) Miami Dolphins: Jake Long OT Michigan
2) St. Louis Rams: Glenn Dorsey DT LSU
3) Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan QB Boston College
4) Oakland Raiders: Sedrick Ellis DT USC
5) Kansas City Cheifs: Ryan Clady OT Boise State
6) New York Jets: Chris Long DE Virginia
7) New England Patriots (f/SF): Darren McFadden RB Arkansas
8) Baltimore Ravens: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB TSU
9) Cincinnati Bengals: Vernon Gholston OLB Ohio St
10) New Orleans Saints: Leodis McKelvin CB Troy

hmmmm....

McFadden is not a reggie bush, he is the real deal, he is more of a Adrian Peterson. You take him if hes on the board and there are no rediculous trade offers. The only offer i would take over McFadden is Dallas's two 1st rounders and Marion Barber. The only player i would take over McFadden at all is Rey Maualuga, and hes not even coming out.

Pats like to use the two back system, there would be plenty of use for both Maroney and McFadden, look how much Morris was used and not to mention Faulk. Oh yea those guys are both over 30.

McFadden is a much better runner, receiver and blocker than Peterson. Peterson benefitted from running behind Hutchinson and Birk and still managed to get hurt.
McFadden can run between the tackles or bounce it outside. He can get you the power 2 yards on third down or he break off an 80 yard run and not get caught from behind.
McFadden can line up as an H back, WR, or RB and because he runs a decent enough route, catch a pass for a first down. 99% of the linebackers in the NFL can not pass cover this guy.

McFadden is much more than BUsh. McFadden does not need to be in space to make plays. McFadden can make plays fom anywhere on the field.

Only two guys in this draft could come in and start on our 2007 Patriots team, McFadden at RB and J Long at ROT.

I don't see how McChicken legs makes it to #7, especially if JJ really covets him as much as people are saying.
Hell, if he's really contemplating offering 2 1st rounders, and a proven commodity in Marion Barber, the 'Fins would be crazy not to take him.

There's no qb in the draft that looks like a lock, Barber's a beast, and 2 late 1st rounders will net you good talent.

Ever since the Cowboy's rumors started up, I was hoping & praying SF wouldn't pull of that win against Cincy, because I know BB would pull that trigger in a heartbeat.

What in the world is JJ thinking if those rumors are even true. Marion is a proven commodity, while McChicken legs looked good in college.

Seems to me they like to use the 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB system more. And the 2 RB system they like to use involves a blocking back, which neither McFadden nor Maroney is. Investing that much money in the RB position seems absurd to me. Drafting a special teams ace at #7 would be a better value than a backup RB. He'd be on the field more.

We could run the Brady-Manning-Brady-Gaffney play a lot more.

And Manning could have the option to pass downfield. It would actually be unstoppable.

He just ran a 4.27 40...

Be prepared for the New England Patriots to trade down from #7.

As for the two back system, the Patriots already have Maroney and Morris with one of the best third down running backs in the NFL.

And it's a deep RB class! Really, NE's taking McFadden (if he were to slide to them) doesn't make any sense. I don't think they'll take a RB in the first round (I don't want them to either), but if they were to take a RB I'd hope for a trade down, and then 235lbs Stewart, who just ran a 4.44 forty. That guy is a beast (with huge legs), and I watched him bust some very nice runs in college. He's also got a nicely developed overall game.
