PFT: Pats will decline Stallworth's option, cut by Friday deadline

Here's to hoping we're able to retain both Moss and Gaffney. A top four of Moss/Welker/Gaffney/Jackson is nothing to sneeze at.
And there's a decent chance K. Washington will come back and enjoy a bigger role on the offense. Still, I'd love for the Pats to pick up Arrington with one of the 3rds in the draft.

Must have missed chad jackson being unstopable for 2 yrs and improving to the pt of betting on his great and tremendous ability.

BTW, I couldn't help but notice your two examples of Great American business models. The NFL is becoming a parody of a soap opera and Harley Davidson has become a glorified t-shirt boutique.;);)

The betting on his ability was when we drafted him in the second round.

This was expected. I love Donte big time, but the CAP pie he would have eaten up is just too much when we have to ink up Randy. Now is where we can finally start to get the value of CJackson's rookie contract. The size, speed and strength are all in this kid, he's chomping at the bit to show us his stuff and he will. He'll be our #2 and I can live with Moss, CJackson and Welker any day. I would love if we can re-ink Gaffney and I think he wants to stay so I think the Pats will work something out with him. He has said it himself, that this offense fits his skillset and they compliment each other.

So if we can re-ink Gaff and Moss we're all set and even if we can't, I can see the Pats redoing KWashington's deal and making him our #4.

Until he gets injured anyways.

What do you mean?? That is nonsensical. The guy hurt a knee ligament. That injury does nothing to indicate he's a soft player.

I think Gaffney will come back as our 3rd wr. I think Chad will be used in a role similiar to Stallworth. Stretch the field opposite Moss. Should be lethal on those wr screens. Has the size/speed to be dangerous on those.

Yes...i think this is exactly right. I like Donte, but I like Jab more. Bye Donte, thanks for the great season.

I think if the Pats let Jab go too, I'd be super disappointed. He and Tom have a great relationship and it showed on the field this season. I'm so impressed with Jabar because this guy is a hard worker who does whatever he has to to get the job done. The fact that he worked his tail off to beat out Reche for the job this year after starting lower on the totem poll is very impressive to me. I'm very excited to see Jackson next season. Moss/Welker/Gaffney/Jackson...will be fantastic. Kelly Washington did a great job for us on ST's but he isnt worth the pricetag.

Jackson has had 3 different injuries. Injury prone.

For a guy with so much speed and ability it makes you wonder why the Pats brought back Bethel Johnson to possibly return kicks.

In a perfect world, we would be able to afford to keep Donte. He had a great season, and I really liked how he ran over defensive backs after the catch. I think his one TD catch and run against the first Dolphins game was a great highlight of the season.

What 3 injuries? There are 2 documented injuries, not 3.

Jackson missed TC his rookie year with a hammie and then was injured in the AFCCG vs. the Colts in 2006.

I liked the one against the Cowboys better....

I'm happy for what Donte did to contribute to the team this season and he'll be missed. Anyway, i really think it's time for Chad Jackson to step up and show everyone what he's got. Obviously BB and company have high hopes for him after making moves to be in position to take him early in the second round. There have already been some flashes of his skills in his rookie year against Buffalo (See Avatar). I could really see him and Moss being a talked about deep threat tandem at some point next season. WR Corps next season: Moss, Jackson, Welker, Gaffney, and yes i am all up for bringing Caldwell back, guy was very productive in his first year in our system and would be cheap.

When we stopped focusing on him as a main target in our offensive scheme it seemed to me that's when we stopped scorching teams and became more conventional and down to earth and might of been one of the reasons we ultimately unraveled in the end.
I'm not one for conspiracy theories but maybe The Patriots knew that they were gonna let him walk after the budget one year deal.
They wanted to faze him out of the offense possibly to let Tom and co be more comfortable running the offense without him.
If this is the case this is truly one of the arrogant poor decisions this organization has made.
Could also be the fact that Jabar was better at finding the soft spot against the D coming out the spread we loved to run.
Not to mention better hands, and more adapt to finding the end zone.
Still Donte's run after the catch plays were electric and really fueled this team.
Either Way in BB I trust am waiting for the emergence of Jackson so I can rock my jersey especially since I predicted we'd draft him and I thought ahead of Maroney but was excited when we traded up for him matter of fact i punched my one friend dapped everybody in the room, and kept saying it's over.
NOW IT"S HIS TIME TO PROVE IT!
I'm on record if we trade CJ for a low round pick or journey man linebacker it could be one of the worst personnel moves this team has ever made.
I EMPHASIS COULD BE!

Our WR corps next season (book it!)
Randy Moss
Wes Welker
Jabar Gaffney
CJ Jones
Chad Jackson
Kelley Washington

Does this in any way improve our salary cap position for next year? In other words, is Stallworth's option bonus included on next year's cap number already or not?

Part of me felt bad for Stallworth, since he signed here thinking he would be the #1 and then Moss is acquired.

But he got to play in a great offense with a great QB, so I don't think he's complaining, nor should he.

The decision by the Pats though is basically a no-brainer.

Canada Pats Fan, I believe the Pats pick up about $5 mil in cap room with this move.

i think CJ will be opposite Randy, and wes will be in the middle, and maroney in the backfield...and one TE/FB, and we become a power team

im pretty sure the 6mil was counted against the pats in all the estimates youve seen..

Yes it was. Miguel has him counting against the cap on his cap page. Miguel shows a cap savings of a little more than $5million if/when he's cut.

I agree it seemed to me they phased Donte' out of the offense, even when bubble screens to him would have been very effective in the Super Bowl especially against the blitz, as evident by his 18 yd. bubble screen play on the first drive, it just seemed they refused to call plays for him and didn't throw to him all game and had Gaffney on the field for most of the game instead.
