NFL Investigations that I'm still waiting for...

Not open for further replies.

This one is the worst of all of them. I will give respect to the Rams guy doing it, though...at least he knows how to keep his mouth shut.

How about NBC allowing us to hear EVERY WORD Brady said in the Eagles Sunday Night game this year? If any Eagles assistant was watching the broadcast, they could have figured out all the audible calls for the second half of the game.

I'm still waiting for the results of the investigation into who leaked the spygate tape to Jay Glazer.

I think Goodell put OJ on the case.

Here are things I have been waiting gofor decades for the league to investigate:

1.) Dan Marino buying $390k worth of stock from one of Wayne Huezinga's other companies at a low employees only rate that ballooned to $2 million in value in a very short period of time. At the time, there were speculations that this was a way to cheat the cap. The investigation never went anywhere.

2.) Deion Sanders getting deals from Sega and Nike that were supposably only valid if he signed with the 49ers.

Both of those a clear and deliberate acts of cheating the salary cap and gaining a competitive advantage if true. The league swept both instances under the rug and the media quickly forgot about them.

Another one we will continue to wait for.

GENTLEMEN, START YOUR TAMPERING

In two days, scouts and coaches will descend on Indianapolis for the annual Scouting Combine.

Also attending a portion of the multi-day event will be plenty of agents, who'll be present for among other things a mandatory NFLPA meeting on Friday.

And with scouts and coaches and agents in the same city only a week or so before the start of free agency, anyone who thinks that there won't be advance discussions about guys who might soon be on the market but who are still technically the exclusive property of one and only one team is stupid or naive or both.

It's the NFL's dirty little offseason secret. Most if not all teams tamper with players poised to become free agents. Some teams who used to not do it started to do it because they concluded that they were at a competitive disadvantage, because everyone but them was doing it.

But discretion is still preferred. Eventually, someone will be sufficiently brazen to get caught, and the league will make an example of that team in an effort to get other teams to dial it in a bit.

Though today's example isn't nearly enough to get a team nailed, it's proof of the nonchalance that now prevails in matters of this nature.

Saints linebacker Mark Simoneau is among this year's free-agent crop. And the Dolphins are one of the teams believed to be interested in him.

Apparently, the guy who currently belongs to the Saints will be testing the market early, via his agent. From Friday's Miami Herald: "Simoneau's agent William Vann McElroy said he had a meeting scheduled with Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland at next week's NFL Scouting Combine, but he doesn't know which specific players will be discussed."

Um, Vann? The only players that should be discussed are clients of yours who currently play for the Dolphins. Or who currently are unattached. Or who will be eligible for the draft. Discussion regarding any other players constitutes tampering by the Fins.

Again, this isn't a smoking gun. But it's a glimpse at the attitude that pervades the league as the Scouting Combine approaches.

There will be tampering, and nothing will be done about it.

I'm still waiting for an investigation on how Asante Samuel was guilty of PI with 1.5 minutes to go in the half in a (up to then) shut out playoff game against Denver.

I'm still waiting for an asterisk after all Denver SB wins due to circumvention of the salary cap.

In that same game! How about the touchback that was never called when Ben Watson forced the fumble on Champ Bailey's int. That piece on NFL Films clearly shows it was impossible for the ball to be out at the 1!

I want an investigation into why there are men's rooms with no urinals at Gillette! :D

(I know it's because they change them to ladies rooms for other events.) :bricks:

Testing the Giants D-Line for steriods. Seriously! They destroyed the O-line all game, throwing them around like rag dolls. Something just didn't seem right.

Other NFL Teams that "Cheat"

Knowing now that breaking NFL rules is viewed as "cheating" by the fans and the media, I thought it might be interesting to have a thread that focused on other "cheating" teams.

Feel free to add on in terms of teams and instances...

Off the top of my head here's a few:

Dolphins - apparently fond of taping QB's audible signals (raising questions as to how far back they had been engaging in such practice, tainting their Super Bowl ;) )

Bears - well known cheaters back to 1955, filming other teams walk throughs and other espionage

Chiefs - known as the Bears of the AFC for their cheating and spy tactics

Raiders - where to start, where to end? Give Al Davis credit though for admitting the extent of cheating in the NFL.

Broncos - won their Super Bowls by ignoring the Salary cap

49ers - accused of tampering by the Bears

Jets - illegally filming the Patriots without permission

Those are just a few off the top of my head... any others?

Re: Other NFL Teams that "Cheat"

Jimmy Jonson admitted when he was with the cowboys they did the same thing the patriots did

Re: Other NFL Teams that "Cheat"

When Mora was coaching the Falcons he was fined 25k for using a cellphone on the sidelines

NEW YORK -- Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for using a cell phone on the sidelines during the team's overtime loss to Tampa Bay on Dec. 24.

Mora was fined under a rule adopted last March prohibiting the use of cell phones or any other form of communications by coaches or players on the field -- other than the regular phones used by teams to communicate between the sideline and press box.

Re: Other NFL Teams that "Cheat"

Browns - Paul Brown put a speaker in Otto Graham's helmet so he could talk to him before and during plays. There was no rule against it but when it was discovered the league had to scramble to ban it. No rule doesn't mean it wasn't cheating, though. If Belichick could put a GPS unit on the ball and taget our WR, would that not be cheating just because there's no rule ?

if there is not a rule against doing something, how is doing it cheating?

Re: Other NFL Teams that "Cheat"

Eagles with Jaworski, admitted it on national TV

Colts with Howard Mudd, he taught everyone

Broncos got caught videotaping practices.

If it's against the reasonable spirit of competition then it's still cheating.

There's no rule against a forcefield inside the goalposts to prevent FG from going through. How about if the Patriots installed such a forcefield, turned it on when the opponents tried a FG and off when we did. Is that cheating ? There cannot be a rule against technologies that haven't been considered as plausible for use. What Paul Brown tried to do would have gained an advantage FAR greater than what we did. During the play he could have said "Otto, look to the right, he's open". He tried to gain a secret, unfair advantage. Otherwise knows as cheating.

Re: Other NFL Teams that "Cheat"

I think San Fran in addition to tampering, tainting their hideous 5-11 season, they cheated the salary cap during their 94 championship.
