Should I add Cap Savings Column?? [merged]

Re: Should I add Cap Savings Column??

I have been thinking of adding a cap savings column to the cap page.

You can see what it would look like at
http://www.patscap.com/indextest.html

Please let me know if you think this would be worthwhile. Please note that I have not finished checking the numbers out.

Really good stuff, the obvious next show to fall is Stallworth and then possible restructures/extensions with Brady and Colvin.

Staying at number 7 makes no sense at all, it will likely chew up $4-7 M just for a single rookie. Should be interesting to watch, not the free for all of 2007 but likely some targetted selective signings.

Re: Should I add Cap Savings Column??

More about $2 million. Less than that if you consider the Top 51 rule.

http://content.usatoday.com/sports/.../playerdetail.aspx?lname=peterson&player=4579

I am glad you can figure this stuff out... for $2M then I change my mind, if the right player is there at 7 then $2M is not much to pay.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_contract.aspx?sport=NFL&id=4169
"7/28/2007: Signed a six-year, $40.5 million contract. The deal includes $17 million in guarantees. Also available is an annual NFL MVP (or NFL ROY in 2007) incentive of $250,000 and a $1 million annual escalator for 20 rushing TDs. He can add $2.5 million to his 2010 salary by rushing for more than 1,000 yards in two of his first three seasons. Should Peterson rush for 2,000 yards or 20 touchdowns, he adds $1 million each time he does to his 2011 salary. 2008: $370,000 (+ $1.555 million roster bonus), 2009: $755,000 (+ $1.555 million roster bonus), 2010: $1.14 million (+ $2.8 million roster bonus), 2011: $7.72 million, 2012: $895,000 (Voidable Year), 2013: Free Agent"

Re: Should I add Cap Savings Column??

I think that would make an excellent addition. Kudos to your hard work.
My sentiments exactly. The new column lets me see immediately where we might expect cuts and or restructures - e.g. Rosy Colvin.

Re: Should I add Cap Savings Column??

Excellent work as usual!!

I guess I would prefer including the ERFA's and even the RFA's at 2nd round level. Thus, the squad would be at 53 players. I don't see the harm. The cap savings would now be there if we cut the player. Also, if the tender was different, that would a contract change like any other. I guessb I'm lazy. I have to add the six every time I consider a roster. :) Also, the rule of 51 would be easier to understand if there were actually 51 players listed.

We go way back. I still talk to "LadyPatsFan" on another site.

Besides she knows im only teasing her.:p

:p:p:p.................

Re: Should I add Cap Savings Column??

I think a page that shows the immediate NET cap savings while also providing dead cap implications would be more easily understood. Likewise taking a shot at potential restructures and what those could net and even stabs at extensions and how they would impact 2008 cap space would be enlightening. If we're going to make assumptions, we might as well go whole hog...Call it the Potential (to free up) Cap Space page.

This is a work in progress.

A check to the Bread of Life may speed up production:)

I did something similar in 2006 which is why you will see players from that offseason mentioned.

Oh. All. Right. ;)

Actually my mom passed a few months ago, on the food holiday of all days, so maybe that was a sign... Some folks gave me money they wanted to contribute to the charity of my choice in her memory. But she essentially died of old age, and I've been waiting for some worthy charity to capture my fancy. Bread of Life it is.

About a month before she passed I was looking out her kitchen window and noticed an old white panel truck parked adjacent to the driveway. Yup...said to myself it's as if Miguel is poking me for a long overdue donation...:D

Re: Should I add Cap Savings Column??

You should label it by year.

As for people not understanding what negative savings are -- well, a footnote would be nice, but basically don't worry about them.

So yes -- it's yet another improvement to an already great site! :)

Great Upgrade to Miguel's Page

I haven't seen this mentioned but his new column of :

"2008 Cap Room Gained if Released Today (Excluding Top 51 effect)"

Makes it way easier to read the bottom line.

No wonder Harrison keeps talking about "honoring the last year of his contract", I'm not sure he's a $3M player right now.

Possibly..but I think it means they will have to do something with Colvin; either a restructure or a cut and sign at a lower number or cut and gone. My thoughts are the first two are the better option. Harrison is a real leader in that backfield which I think is extremely important.

If we were to get savings from one I would rather save $3M on Harrison than $5.8M on Colvin. I think Colvin > Harrison + $2.8M. Of course, the main point is Colvin is young enough that we could do a new contract to get him more money that brings his cap number down this year. At Harrison's age, that option isn't there.

Re: Great Upgrade to Miguel's Page

Colvin Has Alot To Offer Yet, We Need His Speed An Agility. Would Have Been A Factor In Superbowl !

I'd rather save the $2mil cutting K Brady than the $3mil cutting Rodney.

There was a thread a week or so ago when Miguel first made the change. But, it disappeared after a couple of days. It had nothing to do with spygate.

Sorry to read about your mom's passing. I lost my mom a year and a half ago from a massive stroke. I never had the chance to say goodbye; she was basically in a waking coma when I arrived in Boston from Hershey. IDK if having that chance would have eased the pain much, anyway. There's never a good time to lose a parent.

I completely agree, though I believe the actual # is $1.7M?
