being that we're a little under the cap (depending on restructures), I was looking at some of the lower rated f.a.
whats your thoughts?

Michael Boley olb/ atlanta, has experience in the 3/4

Clark Haggans olb/ pittsburgh, same as above

Antwan Odom de/ tennessee, watched him alot (all they show down here) and he's a decent pass rusher, and may be cheaper than expected.

Maurice Williams ot/jacksonville, anyone else concerned about rt??

Jacques Reeves cb/ dallas, interesting project. cheap.

chargers have a very talented wr who has been in their doghouse all season for some odd reason

his name is malcolm floyd , i believe he'll be a very cheap UFA wr option

why is he in the doghouse? good suggestion though, especially when we really dont know how things will play out with d-stall, wash, etc.

sorry, i can't agree, never heard of boley, haggans doesn't sound better than what we have, i do agree we need a pass rusher but i don't see odom as the answer unless haynesworth comes with him, i'm not down on our offensive tackles, the ones we have are fine, and if i remember correctly reeves was targetted every time he came in the gamke. sorry son, goof try.

I am fond of Boley, myself. I discovered him through fantasy football. He is a freakin beast.

1st off, how can you say boley isnt worth signing, if you know nothing about him?
2nd, haynesworth??? awefully expensive for wilforks backup.
3rd, if reeves was targeted so much, then atleast we know he's experienced:D
at what we dont know.

anyway, if you dont like my suggestions, list some of your own. i expect more from my own father who claims to know everything about football.:bricks::D

I know Kevin Faulk still has a little in the tank but Melwelde Moore would be good insurance.

he could be cheap too. here's his stats from yahoo. not bad, considering he's been behind taylor, and now peterson.

Recent Career Rushing Receiving Fumbles
Year Team G Rush Yds Y/G Avg TD Rec Yds Y/G Avg Lng YAC 1stD TD Fum FumL
2005 Minnesota 16 155 662 41.4 4.3 1 37 339 21.2 9.2 29 8.4 16 2 1 1
2006 Minnesota 16 24 131 8.2 5.5 0 46 468 29.3 10.2 50 10.5 15 1 0 0
2007 Minnesota 12 20 113 9.4 5.7 0 6 48 4.0 8.0 20 6.7 1 0 1 0

i still prefer faulk. once he stopped fumbling, he really became a great player for us.

So what that you haven't heard of Boley. Had you heard of Mike Vrabel before the Pats signed him? I didn't think so. Just an FYI, Boley was one of the leading tacklers in the league this year.

If you think Kaczur is fine, then you didn't watch the SB.

As for Reeves, yes, he was targeted, but when you have a choice between him and Terence Newman, of course your going to target him. That doesn't make him bad.

Haggans may not be better than what we have but we NEED bodies.

Imagine what happens when one LB goes down. Then what do we have?

My only issue with adding Haggans is that the Pats have 3 good OLBs right now and that is the position that Haggans plays. OLB. The Pats need ILBs more than OLBs.

I laugh at your glaring influence. You know nothing.

That's true, but the Pats have versatile OLBs who can move inside and play effectively. Bringing in Haggins allows us to move Vrabel inside for a snap or two when Bruschi or Seau need a rest. It also allows us to give Vrabel or Colvin a break on the outside without there being a major dropoff in talent on the field.

You are correct.
----------------------------------------------
There is plenty of room for linebackers on this squad. We try to carry four OLB's (at least one who plays also plays ILB), 3 ILB's, and a special teamer or developmental player who we don't count on to see the field much (Izzo for several years, and Davis was the 9th for years). The fact of the matter is that 5 of the OLB's will get almost all the reps, until there is an injury in which case the 6th gets reps. I suggest that one spot be reserved for a developing draftee, which I think all of us would have done last year with Rogers.

Haggans is a name and a lineage we respect. But I would think there are others who can beat out Slaughter or Lua or Alexander for a roster spot.

Woods is the best of the young STer's as well as being our best young prospect, so he will be given more time, even if he isn't ready to step in right now. Both he and Alexander are ours for little money this year and are RFA's in 2009, so we have them for two years at reasonable salary.

For me, Izzo could come back as a STer, but that should at the expense of the 10th DB who would also be a STer.
=============================
we have

1. Colvin who were are paying $5.5M for 2008, even though he is coming off an injury
2. Vrabel who can play inside or out
3. Thomas who can play inside or out
4. Woods who is primarily a special teamer, and an emergency OLB
5. Alexander who is primarily a special teamer, and an emergency ILB
6. Lua who was headed for the practice squad last year before he was injured
7. Slaughter
8. and an open position reserved for a developing draftee

i agree with what some are saying about the guys i listed being olb's, not mlb's. we do need some better depth at mlb. younger, faster, etc. my reason for listing them, was because i wasnt all that impressed with the f.a. mlb's. we need to remember that b.b., and scott look at the talent, and VALUE. suggs will be franchised if baltimore cant lock him up long term, which theyve stated in the press. so, aside from a yet to be named rookie, i just dont see any mlb's that we would want, for the right price. olb, on the other hand, i see talent, and value with haggans, and boley, and we really dont know whats gonna happen with rosey. i hope he restructures, and stays. if he doesnt take a new deal, i suspect he'll be gone, and then we are thin at olb. unlike my dad, im not sold on the right side of our o-line. with that said, im not b.b., and whatever he does, i'll be fine with:D

Clarification, since some people seem to be mistaken on this point: Adalius Thomas is an inside linebacker for the Pats. That's what he was signed to be, and that's what he was before an injury forced Belichick to move him outside. Just because he's versatile enough that he can play OLB doesn't mean that that's what we want or intend him to be

This is probably a stupid question but at least it is not spyfake related. Is there any way a guy like Jared Allen from KC could make the transition from DE to OLB with us. On the same vein are there any cheaper veteran DE in the league that we could transition to the positition. I mention this because there seems to some talk of us drafting a Chris Long and doing the same thing with him. Wouldn't it be less risky to try this with a veteran instead?

are you suggesting getting Jared Allen? No way he leaves KC.

If the chiefs don't franchise him then and BB thought he was a game changing player then yes I could see him going after him. Big if's ...my main point is isn't it easier to look for future linebackers from the stock of veteran free agents then from a rookie draft class that has never faced NFL competion.
