I think Patriots fans get over the loss much slower than players/coaches

I think that Patriots fans just like us take a much longer time in getting over the Super Bowl loss than say a Tom Brady and Company or BB and staff.

Of course the players lose extra SB money,a ring and maybe it affects potential future big contracts but I think its simply a business to most of them and they get over it quicker.

I am sure many of our guys have already moved on to 2008 and are golfing and doing the spring/summer stuff rather than sulking like us guys.

Its a business to most of the guys I am sure and they will get paid what thier contract is worth regardless of winning the title or not although I am sure it hurt them bad the first 24 hours after the game but I think the upcoming offseason,rest and golfing ect; gets them over the loss quicker than us suffering fans

I totally agree with everything you said and would like to add that as fans, we realize we are totally powerless to do anything about the outcome of games while the players can tell themselves, "OK, I know what I did wrong and I'll correct it next time", effectively coming to terms with it in a relatively short time. Yes, we are at their mercy.

I am sure they feel the hurt....I just imagine it is different for them as they were working so hard so long that despite losing there prolly is a sense of relief that the season is over. kinda like when the average joe punches out on friday and knows they don't comeback till mon.

I could make the biggest mistake friday but it wouldn't bother me as much because i have a few days off.

To me the real issue is that these guys are professional athletes, so you know they've faced crushing defeats throughout their sporting lives at every level, high school, college, pro. This might be the worst loss any of them will ever experience, but I'm sure they know how best to move on, enjoy their vacations as best they can, and then get back down to business.

As a Steeler fan, I saw a problem with the "message" not the messenger, as it came to the end of Cowher's run as coach. Eventually, Veterans start to "tune out" what the coach is saying because they've heard it all before. I think the Pats really will need to revamp a lot of the Veteran's on their roster, just so the message isn't lost.

Cowher's SB win wasn't the begining of a Dynasty, it was the end of one that should have been. SB appearence in 95, that should have been the "begining" of the run. After 10 years, we made it back, but by year 11, those veterans on the team, had heard the same Message for 10 years, it wears out eventually. I think Cowher's message fell on deaf ears in 06, as well as Ben face planting a windshield, and that had as much to do with our failure to make the playoffs (but we did knock out the bengals in the last week of the season, ha ha!) as much as anything else. I'm not saying Bill B needs to change message, or change teams, its just, with some of the Veteran's his message may be falling on deaf ears. Its tough, very tough, to get up again after losing the SB. Ask the Packers, the Steelers, the Panthers, the Bears, the "message" fails more than anything else.

I agree with you. It is all business with these guys. It has made me decide to tone down my support of the team in terms of time and money. For example, I have decided not to renew my Direct TV NFL Sunday Ticket for next year. I will now only watch Pats games that are televised to my local area so I'll probably only see 6-8 Pats games next year.

Actually, I was glad to see the season over. Exciting but a really unenjoyable year.

I believe the fans are too hard on this. I was watching the show "America's Game" on the NFL Network. The series chronicles each SB champion.

Before SB IV, Len Dawson of the Chiefs was linked to a gambling grand jury in Detroit. He spends several minutes discussing this and how bad it was.

If one considers what the NFL and Sphincter did 48 hours before SB XLII, it's not a shock what transpired or why these guys want to get away.

I am getting more livid at Goodell and Sphincter.

I don't know that about Seau - In San Diego he was already used to losing a Super Bowl and despite his age and yet to win one.

You can't generalize. I'm sure some of the players are haunted much more than we are. We all hear the stories about how Brady can't stand losing at Scrabble, let alone the Super Bowl. and on the other hand, some players probably are not so devastated.

Something to remember is that we as fans have been passionate about the team for 10, 20, 30+ years. Some of the players were on the team for 9 months. So while they're still passionate about winning, they may not be as passionate about winning as a Patriot as we are.

You know, I couldn't agree MORE with you on this.....It seemed to me watching a tape on ESPN of Matt Light and Logan Mankins (two of the biggest reasons WHY our offense and Brady could do nothing) laughing and joking about cutting off their beards after the loss......that this game just didn't have the same "depression factor", gravity ....or seriousness to them (players) that it did for we the fans......I will NEVER get over this loss.......while it seems like the players were "over it" by the time they boarded the bus in AZ.........good points

I'm sure a lot of players have taken the loss pretty badly. As for me, my daily ritual of watching ESPN and swearing at 'experts' is over. I no longer watch ESPN for fear of mentioning anything SB 42 and spygate. I no longer read sports page on news papers nor do I go onto espn.com website. I know, its pretty pathetic but it just hurt so bad when Pats lost in that fashion and I'm still having trouble hearing about it. I just think with all the circumstances going on during SB week, Pats were perfectly set up for a loss. However, I have to say, no matter how miserable I feel about Pats loss, I'm sure players feel a lot worse.
