FORMER RAMS PLAYER SUES PATS
Posted by Mike Florio on February 15, 2008, 3:26 p.m.

Not long after the Patriots were caught videotaping defensive coaching signals, a class action was filed on behalf of Jets season-ticket holders. (The current status of that action is unknown.)

Now, another class action has been filed against the Patriots based on published reports of cheating in connection with Super Bowl XXXVI. And one of the plaintiffs played for the Rams, whose final walk-through practice allegedly was taped secretly by the Patriots.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, former Rams player Willie Gary has joined with a Cincinnati ticket broker who attended the game to file suit against the Patriots in a New Orleans federal court. Super Bowl XXXVI was played at the Louisiana Superdome in February 2002.

The action seeks a full refund for all persons who attended the game. At $400 a pop and 72,922 pops, that’s $29,168,800.

Also, the suit demands payment to all Rams players of the $25,000 difference between the winners’ share and the losers’ share, and of the value of a Super Bowl ring.

The lawsuit alleges that the Patriots engaged in fraud, racketeering, breach of contract, and violation of Louisiana’s unfair trade practices and consumer protection act.

At a minimum, the filing of this action means that, one way or another, former Patriots employee Matt Walsh’s story will come out. He will be subject to subpoena via the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii, and the subpoena will overcome the terms of any confidentiality agreement.

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

somebody in NFL don't want to let it go. What a news.!

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

Willie Gary?

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

On and on and on.. this whole sitz is getting crazy, when will another coach or coaches come out and say most did this..it is not a unique to Pats thing.

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

Give me a break. If I were to go to federal court and sue this moron for the 5 seconds of my life I spent trying to remember who he was, our two cases would have equal merit. Jackass.

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

Willie Gary?

Probably the worst player on the Rams in 2001 (either him or Justin Watson, that backup FB who kept saying "I like our chances! I told you, I like our chances! We're the #1 offense in the league!")

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

this lawsuit is going no where because Goodel repeatedly said that the outcome of that game was still the same.

what that meant is there was no 'wrong doing' in that SB game. When you think it's over, it is not quite.

I'm suing the Giants for causing me undue emotional stress in the past two weeks. Bastards should've let the Patriots win!

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

I hope one of the lawyer-type folks can chime in here, but don't you need to have more than a "hunch" to file a civil lawsuit? I mean, don't you need to have evidence--even if it's circumstantial--that the alleged crime caused actual harm before you can go on an extended fishing hunt? [And, for that matter, isn't there a statute of limitations?]

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

Way to go Goodell. This whole mess is your fault. You had the chance to squash this for what it really was, but instead you overdid it. Happy now?

If this ever were to go to court I can say right now BB will break silence and release all the evidence they have of other teams doing the same thing. Then guess whose going to have egg on their face... the idiotic fans and whiny b*tchy players of the other teams

By breaking/bending the rules the Pats have opened up the good ole US litigation machine. Granted nothing may come of this but it's still dragging the teams name and the league thru the mud. God Bless America and our Lawyers.

Well, considering that the lawsuit the Jets fans filed when there was actual cheating going on has gone absolutely nowhere, I'm not sure this one is going to have legs either.

I fixed your post for you. :) [Again, the only thing the Pats were guilty of is bad form.]

My God, it never stops they keep crawling out of the woodwork like cochroaches. Goodell realy screwed up making this the issue he did, this could go on for quite awhile by the looks of it.

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

You know, SpyGate stories have actually become refreshing to me compared to 18-1 talk.

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

Goodell has tried his best to resolve this spygate thing but somebody was not happy about Pats and wanted to create problem for Pats and him. Until we see some big shots in NFL come out and say something about it, this problem is not going anywhere.

You can sue anybody for any reason but the judge is going to tell you that you don't have your case and that is the end.

Does this mean we can sue the Yankees for 2003 since they were all on steroids? How about for 1999? Can we sue the Steelers for being on steroids too? I'm sure they beat the Pats a couple of times in the seventies. How about the Cowboys? I heard abut some shenanigans in the 90s. Can Bills fans sue them and use the proceeds to keep their team?

This is completely ridiculous and stupid. Goodell really needs to go. And somebody needs to start a PAC targeting Specter in 2010 because he will be running again since the GOP has nobody in PA to replace him.

My point was that there was actual proof of something going on in that game, and the lawsuit was still laughable. Which makes this one the king of jokes.

Kinda interesting take on it....which almost brightens it up.

Goodell could have handled this differently and it may have gone away. He didn't he had to be a hard ass and now it wont go away and it is making his league look bad.

I still would rather this have been a non issue but at least it is making Goodell look like an ass.

Re: Former Rams S Willie Gary files lawsuit against Pats

Again, this is not good... I know this is stupid, but if Kraft keeps getting bad press, the super bowl loss will not be the only thing we are down about.. Im getting pissed about the whole nonsense, because it needs to go away...NOW
