Can't get the Tyree catch out of my head, help

The pain continues, I can't shake it, it's been almost two weeks and I can honestly say that during the course of a normal day, memories of the game still pop in my head all throughout the day and into the night. The pain is still there, I constantly revisit that Tyree catch, that complete miracle catch which in my eyes won that game.

Then what happens, I get home last night, open the mailbox and find my PFWeekly issue, open it up and low and behold, there's a still shot directly from Eli's view of one of the greatest most miraculous catches in NFL history staring right at me. Our good friend David (4th WR) Tyree. Back came the pain.

I sat and stared at that shot and for those of you who don't get PFW, let me describe it.

This shot shows Tyree as he starts to fall backwards. The fingers on his right hand are simply touching the football as it balances on his temple. Here's the killer, Rodney has both arms wrapped around Tyree's right arm which is the same arm that he's using to somehow hold this football on his helmet with his finger tips. You look at the picture and you wonder how Rodney could not have simply moved one of his two arms, which would have then moved David's right arm and the damn Superbowl is in the bank and we're 19-0. How could Rodney not have moved his arm ? It's beyond explanation, and the the damn pain just continues. Happy Friday.

Good God, there've been SO many great highlights over the last eight years. There will be more to come. Let it go. You can't change it. You couldn't have affected it at the time. Worry about what you can change and not about what you can't.

First, I understand it's tough to get over it, but no matter how many times you look at it and think about it nothing can change it-it truly is unbelievable that he caught that ball-but he did.

Maybe this will help-let's for a minute say-OK-he dropped it. That makes it 4th and 5-then what happens? Don't assume the Pats stop them-let's say they convert and continue to march down the field-who knows-but don't assume if he drops it the game is over-it wasn't a 4th down play.

That last drive had several plays that an inch here or there changes the game-but they didn't and they lost-and nothing will ever change that. I found it best to just accept they lost and move on-because to dwell on it didn't accomplish anything except make me crazy.

Think about all the times in the past those plays went the Pats way-think about all the good times and great plays and wins-put in Three Games to Glory and watch that-try and stop torturing yourself.

you can't dwell on that image big guy, or you're gonna drive yourself nuts. I know it's a very powerful image. When he made the catch, I turned to my wife and said: "We're doomed. When a guy catches a ball on his head in the final minute of a Super Bowl, you know it's destiny."

now we know how the Cowboys feel when they imagine The Catch or how the Rams feel about Vinatieri's kick or how the Titans feel about Kevin Dyson's "reach" that fell a few inches short...

you have to get some sort of a mind game going wherein everytime the image presents itself you automatically think of something (anything!) else.

My own approach has been avoidance. i haven't watched a tape of the catch since the game and i turn the page on any pictures before i dwell on it.

Sucks that it happened to us, but it doesn't keep me from being able to appreciate it.

I don't know what hurt worse about the play - whether we gave up a miracle 32-yard completion in the closing minutes of the SB....or that I knew our D would give up a touchdown when they have 1st and 10 at the 25.

I hear ya. It took me little over a week to really get over it and just when I was feeling good I got that same Pats Football Weekly issue in the mail. Ha. What are you gonna do? Yes I still find myself thinking about 'what if' every now and then but at the same time, I am finding it easier to realize that The Pats had a great season, even if it came up short. All those wins, never been done before, getting to the Superbowl.. All stuff to be proud of. 30 other teams would love to trade spots.

Just read through the issue and put it away. We're already working on 08.

I understand somewhat. Faulk's catch on 3rd and 11 against the Chargers was an awesome catch (Tyree's was better) and it extended the game ending drive right at the beginning. Chargers would have had a chance if he doesn't make that catch. Faulk is a magnificent player for the Patriots. Maroney really did a good job against the Chargers. He showed remarkable patience and an ability to bounce the play outside when up the gut was plugged.

I hate it (and kinda love it) when they say "The Great Escape" by Eli Manning. Cuz then, you look at the replay, and you can see two uncalled facemasks, a holding, and a block in the back...its so...cheating

I think I must've seen the result coming, as I quit watching after the first quarter and just tracked the game online. That also softened the blow...
