I am not moving back to the US until the Patriots win another Super Bowl.

I was just thinking about how lucky I am to be here and to not be exposed to ANY Super Bowl commentary, conversations, or replays (I have never seen a single highlight from the game!). Another ex-Pat that works for me tried to talk to me about the game yesterday, and I told him to stop right away.

And then I was thinking, "shoot, it's going to be darn tough to be back in the US and have to occasionally deal with those things." Even though I am not planning on going back for at least 2 years, I'll still be exposed to it now and then because of the freakishness of the game. And that will suck.

And then I thought about Game 6 of the '86 World Series (still the most painful sporting event of my life) and how I could never watch replays or highlights of that game, until... the Sox won the Series in 2004! That game washed away so much pain that I am now able to watch highlights of Buckner and Stanley and Gedman without puking!

If a Sox win can do that for me, why not a Pats win?

Yes, it's true that 18 years probably also helped to wash away some pain. But I figure that even though the Pats will hopefully win a Super Bowl in less than 18 years, all of the goodwill that I have stored up for them + a victory after the horror-bowl will wash away enough pain for me to withstand the occasional Eli highlight.

God willing the Pats will win another one within the next 5 years so I can get the **** out of here.

Please do not tell my wife.

The only place I really hear about it is over the internet and specifically football message boards. Otherwise I never hear about it. I talk to a lot of people over the country and they all know I am a huge pats fan. They gave me some friendly ribs right after the superbowl but I haven't heard a thing since. 99.99% of the world doesn't care and that isn't exaggeration.

So you're saying that my self-imposed exile isn't necessary?

Far be it from me to advise a member of The Tribe about exile :)

However, I think you might be overreacting just a tad little bit. I live in Gotham and I've managed to avoid not only the nagging national media but to tune out or tune off the local homers on tv and in the press. I am occasionally affronted by sundry Giants caps and sweatshirts, but have managed to survive.

So, stay in HK if your business demands but otherwise don't deprive the Patriots of the sound of your Shofar on game day.

So you're saying that my self-imposed exile isn't necessary?

Definitely. In fact, I wish I was around a bit more hate. It doesn't really bother me and I like to argue.

Wow. That's very surprising.

And very weird.:)

Which part? The not really bothering me or the liking to argue part?

Its not like there is anything that I need to hide from or be ashamed about.

I hope the good people of Hong Kong don't get confused when Patjew tells them he intends the blow the chauffeur.

The liking to argue. I mean, I do too, but not about this painful loss. But I said it jokingly.

The drivers line up for miles to hear it for some reason.

Now, THAT's funny!

And on Rosh Hashanah, whenever someone took out a handkerchief about to blow their nose, my bro and I would always shout out "T'kiah!!!"

High Holiday Humor. There's nothin' like it, baby.

Thanks, folks, I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip the Shammus and try the kischke!

With all due respect, Patjew (and I mean that sincerely), you come off as being a bit silly. Dealing with all the crap we're enduring post-XLII is all part of the process and ultimately makes one a wiser, better fan.

In times like these, I invoke the immortal words of Conan the Barbarian: "That which does not kill us makes us stronger."

Depends a lot on where you live, PJ, at least with regard to the confrontation with people part. I live in NorCal, have a business and see hundreds of customers every week. The ones that are sports fans at all are well aware that I am a huge (hate that term, but) Pats and Sox fan. Nobody has made it at all unpleasant about SB 42. If anything, they say they're sorry my team lost. The extreme case would be to live in the NY or NJ big city areas and wear Pats gear, I suppose. But bottom line, if you can't wait to get the **** out of there, you should get the **** out of there, shouldn't you?

(whispering)......ummm, Tunie. I think the thread is tongue-in-cheek.

Another ex-Pat? OK Patjew could you please elaborate on that?

OK. Gosh, looks like I could probably use a long stay in Hong Kong.
