Cardinals | Team places franchise tag on Dansby
Thu, 14 Feb 2008 15:41:01 -0800

The Arizona Cardinals placed the franchise tag on LB Karlos Dansby Thursday, Feb. 14. Dansby has been offered a one-year tender in the amount of the average of the five highest paid linebackers in the NFL in 2007. The Cardinals can negotiate a long-term contract with Dansby through July 15. If he receives an offer from another team, the Cardinals can match the offer or receive two first-round picks as compensation.

d%#*!@t. I really wanted him.

smart move by them.... he was an early second rounder if I recall

Looks like Calvin Pace will be available. Not sure how Vrabel would feel about moving inside again but it we extended Colvin and signed Pace (wouldn't be cheap) we could have a LB group of :

OLB - Colvin, Pace
ILB - Thomas Vrabel

However I think we'll be keeping Vrabel outside.

What about Haggens from the squeelers at ILB

Haggans is an OLB... Not sure if he or Pace are better. Haggans should have a step up on Pace because he's coming out of the 3-4. However, I believe that Haggans also has a mouth on him.

I thought Haggans was a ILB,if hes not then forget it.

I honestly think you are going to see the same LB crew next year with hopefully an addition of a first rounder(most likely 2nd rounder) linebacker.

That is what i have been hoping for. With Seau or Bruschi returning, Vrabel would take snaps both inside and outside.

You recall correctly. First pick of the 2nd round, 33rd overall, in the '04 draft. Taken one spot after Bumblin' Bennie Watson.

Guess I'm late to the show...

I just posted something in the draft forum weighing Dansby's likely contract numbers (if NE were to sign him) in comparison to what Gholston would get at 7th overall.

Well, I guess I'll have to go and edit that now.

Well, that leaves my boy Terrell Suggs. If the Ravens do not franchise him, there is a good chance he will end up in New England.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe Vrabel does not like to play ILB because that is more stressful on his back.
