Some interesting stuff in here, though I am not sure I agree Gay is ready to start. He scares me even as a nickelback. I'm still in the camp that Asante is as good as gone, though I think he'll be only average wherever he ends up...

an average article. other than the number breakdowns i didn't learn much. I was expecting some darkhorse potential replacement.

I am in agreement Gay is a solid backup plan for the Pats and draft a corner witht he 2nd or third and groom him. Keep Hobbs. Upgrade the pass rush and the corners don't have to cover as long.

Crucial will be getting pressure on the opposing QB and that will be getting passrushers present and future players.

Can someone let us know what Asante's metrics show? I'm curious. I've heard many times that his #s and Hobbs are nearly identical for the season.

I think Hobbs when healthy is on par with Asante. Gay seemed to take a step back this season, but perhaps there was more going on there (injury maybe.) I do think drafting a corner would be a good idea regardless of whether Asante stays or goes. I would love him to stay, but the reality of the situation is someone is going to pay him an ungodly amount of money, and it won't be NE.

This guy is pretty good (for ESPN he is amazing). The things he says about Seymour, Vrabel and Samuel all seem to gel with what many of the more objective posters on this site were saying all through the second half of the year.

I've always thought Seymour was a bit overrated. Maybe Vrabel didn't have his best year this season but I have no problem with his being in the PB because he has deserved it for so many years.

Yes And this is why I think that we won't be as desperate for a CB at #7 along with FA.

I liked Asante from his first year, when he acted like he was just as good as Eugene Wilson, proved it, then went out and got better every year. Having said that, he doesn't like to play on the right side, cannot play bump and run and doesn't have deep speed. My idea of a shut-down corner is someone who can shut down either side of the field. He's not that guy. I think he was overpaid this year at $7.8M. I think some team is going to make him the highest-paid corner in the league, but I think they'll be disappointed.

I think the Patriots should draft a couple of fast, cheap CBs in the middle rounds, get them to room with and compete against each other all spring and summer, and put the winner out there on opening day.
