Not sure where this should be posted, if anywhere, but is there a way to remove the email address from our profiles?

I get enough spam as it is, don't need anymore.

I selected you after viewing the website of your country, which I prayed and fasted for two weeks over before I picked you. This is because the Security Company and the management just wrote me as the beneficiary to come forward to claim the money or rather issue a Letter of Authorization to somebody to receive it on my behalf if I can not come over. I am willing to donate the US$6,150,000.00 (Six Million One Hundred and Fifty Thousand US Dollars) to the less privileged.

Please I want you to note that this fund is currently lying in a Security/Reserved Company and upon my instruction my Attorney who is presently in London will file in an Application for the transfer of the money in your name. This process will make the fund get to you legally thereby not breaching the Laws of the both countries concerned for this very claim.

Interesting, in all the time i have had an account here I have only gotten 2 e-mails from Patsfans. Hardly enough to complain about.

It's true, but I got the last one despite disabling email contact in my user prefs. It's not good form (and nevermind being against the CAN-SPAM Act) to ignore unsubscribe requests.

I'm not sure you're correct about that, considering that the e-mail was neither commercial in nature nor asking for money. Furthermore, you voluntarily provided your e-mail address upon registration, and even if it's hidden in your public profile it's not out of the realm of acceptance for site admins to use it for administrative purposes, as long as it's not distributed at large. Saying it's a violation of CAN-SPAM is a bit of a stretch, it's more of a gray area.

That's alright, I'm not planning on reporting anyone, I'm just very sensitive about getting unsolicited emails.

I apologize. The settings for the e-mail had it set to go out to subscribed members, and I don't see any direct unsubscribe requests in my e-mail from you. However I will manually change your settings so you don't get any future e-mails. - Ian

Got it. I just spent the last hour going through this and finally figured it out because it wasn't set up as obvious in the admin panel. I just disabled the ability for people to see the e-mail addresses as it got enabled again after the upgrade. I also made it where users have to have a minimum of 20 posts to be able to e-mail, which will prevent bots from sending garbage messages, and should someone e-mail you, it will require a form to be used which will not show the address. You can also disable the ability for members here to e-mail you.

It is important that your e-mail addresses in your profile are accurate, but only because passwords expire every few months, and you won't be able to click the "forgot your password" link and get it reset so you can log back in. I can't tell you how many people have to e-mail me to reset their passwords for that reason, and since I only have so much time to check my e-mail and get back to people it will save you step. - Ian
