Just an opposing fan's opinion. QB's I'd put ahead of Brady:

John Elway---5, that's right, FIVE Super Bowl appearances with 2 wins. Carried Denver's offense in the late 80's, with a talented but not all-time great defense on the other side. Was able to get his rings once he had an offensive mind worthy of using his talents, and able to give him some help in other phases of the game offensively.

Brett Favre---.500 in the big game, with 2 appearances. Carried Green Bay's offenses to elite status in the 90s. Delivered the ball with a velocity/accuracy combination the game had never seen before and hasn't since...Probably the most dominant QB ever in his prime, as well.

Joe Montana---4 Super Bowl appearances, FOUR WINS. Not the most talented, and not even the most consistent QB ever....just the greatest when he had to be. As accurate a passer a you could ask for when he got in a zone, too. There's not really anyone I'd be more comfortable trusting the football with. Also, the best out-of-the-pocket passer in history, particularly good to his right.

Steve Young---1 SB appearance in which he put up an all-time great performance in a winning effort. He's the most accurate QB ever. He was also the BEST running QB ever (and I say best in that he was SMART about it....he "knew" when to take off and when not to. Montana also knew this, but Young was just on a whole other level with the ball in his hands.) Not a "choke artist" in big games either, as some have said....

...Brady DEFINITELY comes after all these guys on *the list* IMO, with guys like Marino, Aikman, Kelly, and Manning.

thanks i needed that.

Same as before:
1. Montana
2. Brady

I guess if we're just going with Superbowl QB's we could put the other TB @ #2, Terry Bradshaw.

How on earth does Elway with his .400 winning % in the Superbowl get slotted ahead of TFB?
Or Steve 'I jumped right in to one of the most talented lineups' Young?
Or Brett 'I can gunsling my team right out of the NFL playoffs @ a moment's notice' Favre?

If you're going to be annoying about it, why not complain about:
Tom 'I couldn't get it done in the big game with THE most talented offense in the history of the game' Brady?

so this is where all the smart posters hang out.

I wonder how you'd be ranking brady if he had been throwing to jerry rice all these years.

Ok so let's just discount the fact that he's done more with less in the past ....If he doesnt have time to get the ball deep to moss, how's he going to get it there? The offense didn't do nearly enough, but don't forget they did get the lead back, and the d was in the position to win the game. Anyways, this discussion won't mean much until he retires bc there will be plenty more to be written about his career...

The SB sucked this year, but let's not forget he did lead this team to the first 16-0 regular season which is a hell of an accomplishment (empty i know bc we didnt win the big one, but still a great accomplishment that had never been done before). I'd put him behind Montana, although this is going to be an endless discussion with no right/wrong answers...not yet anyways

The SB sucked this year,

Until the 4th quarter, it was pretty boring, although seeing the golden boy laid out and hit so much made the first 3 quarters exciting. But just about every non-patriots fan would agree that it was the best 4th quarter in superbowl history

Brett Favre does not belong on this list. He may put up numbers but he is reckless. Favre is one of the most overrated players in the history of the NFL.

Ummm ok.... It's one thing to enjoy your victory, congrats to the Giants btw they played a hell of a game...but its another to start over-exaggerating...in superbowl history? NO WAY

This is one of the most dumbest arguments I have ever encountered. Mainly for the fact Brady is far from finished. How can you hold him up at only 30.

Now, realistically 4 superbowls 3 wins puts him right at the top, now. It's just the haters who try to make an argument against him. You can't, even if you want to hate all you want we are witnessing one, if not the greatest ever. That is football players and not quarterbacks. Now that superbowl was not his fault. I would attribute it more to providence, to the miraculous then any fault of Brady. That catch, those missed interceptions. Hats off to the Giants for fate was on there side. We still have many years to come. Face it you haters. Brady is far from done.

John Elway - Retired, 5 appearances 2 wins, 3 losses.
Tom Brady - Still Playing, only 31 y/o, 4 appearances 3wins : nuff said

Brett Favre - Soon to Retire, 2 appearances 1 win 1 loss
Tom Brady - Broke all Favre' single game records, will break all time Favre's record except consecutive games.

Joe Montana - Retired 4 appearances 4 wins - can't beat that. Kudo's Joe
Tom Brady - Still young enough to win 4 or more, Joe is done.

Steve Young - Retired, 1 appearance 1 win, good, but with the talent he had, should have gotten more.
Tom Brady - Still playing. Started winning younger than all the above, has done more with less team talent than all the rest.

Terry Bradshaw teams won with defense and miracle's. Top 10 QB easily tho.
Tom Brady led his team into position to win every time he plays. Defense could have won this SB, with one last sack of Manning.

Tom Brady - ONLY QB to lead his team to undefeated regular season.

IMHO:
1. Joe Montana
2. Tom Brady
3. John Elway
4. Bart Starr
5. put names in a hat and pull out one.

I agree, you can't argue much of anything until Brady retires.

My point was that you could make any foolish saying work for pretty much any of the QB's - but they have all done things to make themselves great. Whether it's make the guys around them better, put up great stats, or win a lot of SB's, all of the QB's in this discussion have done great things. It's foolish to dismiss Brett Favre as "a gunslinger" without acknowledging the fact that he can obviously still perform very well despite his age, and that he has a lot of the career records for a QB.

Brady has definitely done more with less, especially with the previous Super Bowls that the Pats won. But you could ascribe similar silly saying to Brady, by pointing out that he did more with less talent, but couldn't do the same with more talent. Does this take away from his status as a great QB? Probably not. Just like that poster shouldn't use labels to take away from the other QB's.

Brady did an amazing thing leading a team to 16-0, that will never be taken away from him. This argument will NEVER have right or wrong answers haha, even after the QB's are done.

4th quarter, yes. Popular opinion outside of New England says as much. I can't call it the greatest game in SB history, but to say it's the greatest 4th quarter isn't over exaggerating when the percentage of people who'd share my opinion would be pretty high.

No, that's popular opinion in New York. I live in the Midwest so I have a good feel what people outside of New England feel about that fourth quarter. It was a good drive by the giants, but I do think you are over exaggerating when you said most people think it's the greatest fourth quarter in the history of the superbowl...if you want me to give an unbiased example, id say Superbowl XXIII when Montana led the 49ers 92 yards in under three minutes to score the winning touchdown. The game winning touchdown to Taylor came with 34 seconds left. THAT would be at the top of the list and I know many who agree that it is WAY above this fourth quarter. You know what, I give all the credit to the Giants, but general sentiment here in IL is the Pats choked (probably moreso enjoyment from seeing it that way than anything else) rather than the Giants won. I think the Giants played a great game but no way is it considered the best, outside of NE. Maybe you're judging that inside NY?

:) Yes, thats very true. Even being on the list of greats is an incredible accomplishment and should be more of a praise rather than a put down. What it comes down to is opinion and its hard to really have everyone agree on this, but I do think general consensus is Montana is #1 and deservedly so.

I meant my comment to be directed towards people who actually think like your hypothetical

I'll give you that. It's coming from NJ. From A mix of Giants, Cowboys and Eagles fans, and ESPN polls.

I have serious question for you. Do you really think Eli is a god? I mean, the dude has had like 3 or 4 good games in his life. Im not trying to knock him, he's done his thing in the playoffs this year, but really, he is the superbowl mvp by pure chance. The chances of the giants beating the patriots were slim, ok they did it, congrats...but eli had nothing to do with it imo. Sure he had a great drive at the end of the game, but if the refs did there job on that "escape" and blown the whislte when they should have, or thrown the flags when the giants clearly broke the rules, that drive would have been over. Plus, the 1 in a millionth chance that sammuel drops that pass helped Eli out alittle bit.

bottom line, if Eli is God, then Sammuel must be jesus.

1. Eli Manning
2. Joe Montana
3. Tom Brady

In all seriousness though, this is the dumbest thread I've seen in a while. Tom Brady has a lot of career left and whether opposing fans want to admit it or not, when he retires he's probably going to be either #1 or #2 with Montana, depending on how the rest of his career plays out.

Now, if Manning (Peyton, not Eli) wins 3 or 4 more titles, it's a different discussion, but the SB loss does not really diminish Brady's legacy in my eyes.

Yea, I mean come on. Brady has 4 Super Bowl Appearances, 3 wins, which ranks him in at least the top ten. Add that to the fact that he holds many single season records, which before this season (or 2003, with Peyton), many were ranking Marino in the top five because of the fact that he held them. I think that these two factors combined alone (not to mention his game winning drives, etc. that defined his career) put him in AT LEAST the top 3 behind Montana and Unitas.
