With today being the beginning that players can begin to get cut, any notable cuts out there as of yet? I'm hoping that the Panthers cut Dan Morgan. I'd still like to take a flyer on him for the vet. minimum. In a rotation, I think he would be able to maintain his health and not have to be the 'guy' as he was in Carolina.

Re: Any player cuts as of yet?

There will be lots, I'm sure, which is why I'm not the least bit concerned about ILB or CB until we get a way into this.

The first ones I've heard are the Dolphins with Marty Booker, Trent Green and old friend Keith Traylor.

Can we sign players immediately if they're released or are they unsignable until UFA time starts March 1 (or thereabouts) ?

Tough to rely on a player thats never played a full 16 games in a season since coming into the league. But i agree on the fact that he might be a good situational backup guy that would benefit playing here. He's 29 so hes no spring chicken or anything. And in the 3 games he did play in this season he had 22 tackles.

I would welcome a Dan signing but would have to wonder at what cost and would he accept his role?

Personally i dont think he comes here. But would love if he did.

Re: Any player cuts as of yet?

Makes sense that the Dolphins will be cleaning house, with the new regime down there. Personally, I wouldnt want to see Dan Morgan here for anything more than the minimum, with his injury history, and even then I wouldn't want him to be higher than fourth on our ILB depth chart. You just can't rely on him to give you more than a few games, and chances are as good as not, IMO, that after this year he'll be done with pro football.

I dont think they're signable yet.

As soon as they're cut they are street free agents. They can sign at any time.

the dolphins hacked away at their roster today:
MIAMI -- The new Miami regime has started to put its imprint on the Dolphins roster.

The Dolphins cut nine players on Monday, including quarterback Trent Green and wide receiver Marty Booker.

Other players cut by the Dolphins were tackle L.J. Shelton, defensive tackle Keith Traylor, tackle Anthony Alabi, defensive tackle Anthony Bryant, tackle Marion Dukes, defensive tackle Marquay Love and tackle Joe Toledo.

Green, Booker among nine cuts by rebuilding Dolphins
Updated: February 11, 2008, 3:34 PM ET

The Dolphins cut nine players on Monday, including quarterback Trent Green and wide receiver Marty Booker.

Green, 37, suffered a Grade 3 concussion in Miami's Oct. 7 game at Houston when he blocked Texans' defensive tackle Travis Johnson, and was accidentally kneed in the head. It marked the second straight season in which Green sustained a serious head injury. In five games for the Dolphins, he threw for 987 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Booker was cut after his fourth season with Miami. In 2007, he had 556 receiving yards and one touchdown. He had over 1,000 yards receiving in two seasons with the Bears earlier in his career, but never reached the 1,000-yard plateau with the Dolphins.

"This is never easy, especially since all of these players worked hard during their tenure here," Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said in a team statement. "In particular, in the case of each of the veterans, it's especially difficult to release players who have been productive and valued members of the organization. However, we feel these decisions are in the best interest of the team. "I want to thank all of them for their contributions to the Dolphins and wish them good luck."

Other players cut by the Dolphins were tackle L.J. Shelton, defensive tackle Keith Traylor, tackle Anthony Alabi, defensive tackle Anthony Bryant, tackle Marion Dukes, defensive tackle Marquay Love and tackle Joe Toledo.

Trent Green will hang 'em up I think.

OT: Dolphins release nine players

I guess Parcells isn't wasting any time.

Dolphins Release Nine Players
February 11, 2008

The Miami Dolphins today terminated the contracts of wide receiver Marty Booker, quarterback Trent Green, tackle L.J. Shelton and defensive tackle Keith Traylor, the team announced. In addition, the team waived tackle Anthony Alabi, defensive tackle Anthony Bryant, tackle Marion Dukes, defensive tackle Marquay Love and tackle Joe Toledo.

“This is never easy, especially since all of these players worked hard during their tenure here,” Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland said. “In particular, in the case of each of the veterans, it’s especially difficult to release players who have been productive and valued members of the organization. Re: Any player cuts as of yet?

Sorry, started an individual thread on the Phins cuts.

Re: OT: Dolphins release nine players

Good move for the Dolphins. If anything is true about a 1-15 team, it's probably that almost everyone needs to go, and, if they start drafting well now, they'll have the cap space to keep a nucleus together for the long haul.

Anyone know if any of those three OL are any good?

i wonder if the pats are interested in any of these players ?

They're either washed-up vets or no-name scrubs.

Toledo was a 4th-round pick in 2006 but has been injured the past two seasons.

Marquay Love is a 2007 UFDA who converted from DT and was on their practice squad.

Marion Dukes is a 2007 UDFA who left the team and is coaching at Clemson. Was on the Reserve/Left Squad list all year.

Re: OT: Dolphins release nine players

Parcells still has absolutely no semblance of a good QB and there won't be any on the market.

(Save for Derek Anderson, who would require a 1st/3rd round pick though)

So the 2008 Dolphins QB will be...

A) Cleo Lemon
B) John Beck
C) A unproven rookie QB
D) A horrible free agent pick up.

Re: OT: Dolphins release nine players

Wonder if this means the Dolphins are looking to draft QB? I can't imagine the organization has the highest confidence in Josn Beck right now.

Re: Any player cuts as of yet? [merged]

Mike Wahle released by Panthers. Worth a look? 6"6 304 (smaller guard but more better fit for ZBS) and with questions with Neal's injury..who knows

I have little doubt the Browns would trade Anderson for the Dolphins' #2 if it were offered. With Anderson in line to get a big $$$ contract, though, that would be a very iffy deal for Miami. With Anderson's up and down year and stunning lack of accuracy I doubt I'd sign him to big $$$ if I were the Dolphins even if no compensation were required.

Agreed, plus the Browns have Brady Quinn waiting in the wings. This has Brees/Rivers written all over it.
