There are no worlds left to conquer!

With its win over the New York Giants Dec 29, 2007, the
New England Patriots now own every team winning streak
in the history of the NFL.

* Most single regular season wins (16)
* Most consecutive regular-season wins (19)
* Most consecutive overall wins (21)
* Most consecutive postseason wins (10)
You left one out...

* Most overall wins in a single season (18)

They blew that one. They're only tied. :(

I guess 19-0 is really the only one left...

I still think that as long as TB and BB are there, the threat still looms over the NFL.

If this was a team on the ascent, then that SB loss could decimate them for years to come. I think that the Patriots are very resilient and could very well (with luck) duplicate what happened before all is said and done. It's unbelievably difficult, but nevertheless doable. I really believe that. Perhaps I'm delusional. I think that they'll be highly motivated now because everyone hates them and wants them to fail.

Yep, let all the haters have their day right now. Guess who will be back next year? BB/TB aren't going anywhere...

Do you mean descent? Either way, I disagree. Hate to point to a NY team, but just look at the Giants. They were ready to ****-can Coughlin and Manning several times in the last three years. Next, they come completely out of nowhere. The Red Sox in '04 came off one of the most devastating losses ever (thanks Grady) to win it all. I don't think a devastating loss does anything except maybe even escalate the determination to fix whatever went wrong and try again to win it all. Depends on ownership, and I'm still fine with the Krafts.

No, I meant ascent (as in "on the way up"). If they were a team that was just learning how to win, that SB loss would be particularly devastating. It might send them into a downward spiral, ala the St. Louis Rams circa 2002. I don't think they'll let down one bit.

OK, ascent, but I still don't think it amounts to a hill of beans either way. These are professionals. Why didn't the Giants go away when they struggled mid-season, Eli was leading the NFL in turnovers, etc. ?

The pats had a great run this season but to think they will do this again next season is highly doubtfull. And the reason i say this is because they are gonna lose way to many players to free agency. Now if you had said maybe the season after next that is alot more plausible. You have to give some of the rookies they will pick up this year atleast a season to get adjusted. After this season all bets are off the pats may dominate good luck to the pats. But i am thinking the protection for brady this coming season is gonna be the worst the pats have seen in awhile until they get rookies broke in.

I didn't say they "will", nor did I intimate they would or even should, but they are far and away the most likely to put together an historic winning streak as long as TB and BB are there together.

As long as TB and BB are together, the Pats will be fine. But don't expect another run at 19-0... that won't happen for another 35 years. Be happy with 11-5 and home field in the playoffs, because that is more likely.
