ESPN: Eagles/Jets will be targeting Asante Samuel

Don't get me wrong. I think Asante is a very good corner, but for the price he is going to be wanting I think you could pick up two above average corners to replace him, and better ourselves.

I can't stand it when players are all about the almighty dollar. Really...how much friggin money do you need?!?! I suppose some guys would rather be more than rich (cause they are all rich as it is) rather than being on a top notch team. For these kind of guys..I say good riddance. Don't let the door hit you on the way out Asante. Hopefully you can drop some game winning int's for the jets....

I think Asante is a great corner. That being said, I think the super bowl proved that games are won and lost at the deffensive front 7. A super struggling team, like the Jets needs to be spending the big money on the defensive and offensive line. I really do not see the Jets making a strong run at Asante.

Asante is good, but he's not Antonio Cromartie or Champ Bailey. He's solid, but not the fastest. He's not as good as Ty Law used to be.

not many CBs are or have been as good as Law used to be. Im not sure Bailey was as good as Law was before the rule change and age change.

The Chargers and Jags have a ton of cap space I wouldn't be surprised if either of them take a run at Assante too. If he's going to leave I hope the "winner" pays 9M+/year. Let the bidding war begin.

As a Chargers fan, I can say that will never happen. AJ Smith has a tighter anus than any GM out there. He never pays top money, unless you can possibly be/challenge to be consider the best at your position in the history of the league, not just for the season. Even then it's like pulling teeth to get the money done.

Besides, we have very good, young corners (Q. Jammer & A. Cromartie) and Samuel would not add value there.

I'm going to agree with your first point, but argue to the contrary on the second. If I know that I have 10 years if I'm lucky (assuming a player of Asante's caliber) to make the bulk of the money that I'll make in my entire life, I go out and get every penny that I can, to make sure that I and my family are always comfortable. I know it's a popular position to rip on athletes for following the money, but, put in a similar situation, I'm pretty certain that most people would do the same thing. Now, admittedly, there are situations where I would hypothetically take a hometown discount (have plenty of money, a winner is in place, and may or may not make the money back in endorsements anyways), but I can understand why a lot of these players don't.

I am not familiar with Miami's cash flow, but Miami or the Chargers seem likely. He will go to a strong organization I think.

He is gone, let's see what SP and BB have up their sleve...

LOL... I still don't understand why quite a few of you think the Chargers would be interested in Samuel. They have one of the best pairs of corners in the league in Jammer and Cromartie. Please check their numbers.

Drayton Florence is being released. From a Chargers stand point, there is absolutely no need at corner back.

A third quality corner sure as hell would help the Chargers match up better against the Pats, but definitely not an $8M type guy like Asante.

The Dolphins are an option, but I also think the Jags could go after him. They've got a projected $32M plus in cap space, and they seem like a team that would be interested.

I think Asante is a great corner. .
he can only play at left corner...I think GREAT corners can play both sides of the field..the whole thing will come down to money what other options there are..

Even if Asante is a great corner, can any CB in the league have $8-10M worth of impact under the current rules?

That said, I really don't think he is one. Ty Law, at his best, was substantially better imo.
