On my way to the Superbowl driving with my Dad, my Dad was talking to my Uncle and my Uncle was saying that there was a recent article in a Mass Newspaper talking about Spygate and How BB turned over all these tapes proving that other teams and coaches tape signals....

He also said that they had proof of the Colts taping the pats last year and this helped explain there miraculous 2nd half adjustments which helped them come back to win.

I haven't seen anything about this on this site, did anyone hear about this article or read it?

It makes perfect sense to me...

Goodell was trying to be a toughguy, totally jumped the gun on the penalty for the pats, and then crapped his pants when he saw all the tapes they turned over showing the Superbowl Champs "cheating".

So he destroyed them.

I want that damn pick back.

Never heard this myself.

There's been a bunch or rumors and chatter about this; nothing known for sure though.

Let's not give "spygate" tactics so much credit for winning games.... I'm still trying to figure out how the Pats or any other team for that matter would get a significant advantage from it.

my uncle also said that the pats had 2 guys giving out signals in the 2nd half against the colts at times b/c they found out they were stealing them by taping...

i just remembered that part...

If that ever gets out to the public, it will be a sad, sad day for the NFL...

I heard something like that a week ago on NFL Sirius. According to Tim (I believe Hasselbeck - there were two Tims hosting that show), in the Colts game Manning hit an out pattern against the Pats in the first half. He threw the same pass in the second half and was easily intercepted. The story went that the Pats had two guys giving the defensive signals, one decoy one real, and switched the decoy to real in the second half. As such, Manning bit on the decoy signal and was picked. I did not hear about any taping in that discussion.

Actually the saintly Colts have Howard Mudd who is the best stealer of signs on their coaching staff.

The adjustments the Colts made in the 2nd half were going with more underneath stuff instead of having Manning throwing more than 10 yards into coverage every play. It didn't take filming signals to figure out that they had to do it if they wanted a chance to win.
And listen to yourself...you basically said "the Colts taped signals and that's why they beat us." So if you go by your logic, you would have to say the Pats 3 super bowls are tainted, correct?

It makes no sense. How would BB have other teams illegal tapes? And doesn't that justify the fact that if he did present this evidence, he was guilty as well?

im repeating what i heard. Take it down a notch.

If the Colts used it to beat us, than it means what it means. they used it to win.

What it also means is that this draft should not have first round, or we should get our other pick back.

Well unlike Mangini, NE security most likely just confiscated the tapes and held onto them. This is most likely what Belichick turned over to Goodwell if the rumor is accurate.

i have no idea. you would have to ask him.

It would mean that the pats losing a first round pick is ridiculous.
Other teams would have to be penalized or the nfl looks ridiculous.

why don't you just ask your uncle and dad?

I highly doubt that the Pats got illegal tapes from the colts and turned them in. I do not doubt that the Colts stole signals, but probably in another manner.

It sounds so much different when stealing signals is not the issue, but the manner in which a team stole them is.

Let me see if I have this right -- Cheating (a term only used by the haters of the Patriots & the media) ends up being nothing more than a new rule they broke which was only put in a year before they broke this rule, prior to that, stealing signals that way was also OK?

Man oh man, did the wonderful press make a giant mountain out of this molehill. Oh right and add to the mix the Tomase driven unsubstantiated Rams walk through taping by a disgruntled ex Patriot employee with no evidence or tape.

Spygate is all about this media created BS and nothing more......shame on them all.

If you can pick up on a signal you can radio it in to the QB's headset and he can make adjustments at the line.... u could call that a significant advantage, but I doubt the pats were the first to come up with this idea
