Did you know the Patriots WERE 80-2 since 2001 when leading into the 4th quarter?

The Patriots took an 80 wins and 2 loss record since 2001 when leading into the 4th quarter and LOST the Super Bowl???.

Thats 80 wins and 2 Losses - A 99.96% percentage rate of winning.

Now if you had told me that the Patriots were leading into the 4th quarter and would LOSE the most important game of the franchise history and the Super Bowl Championship when thier record was 80-2 leading into the 4th quarter I would have called the hospital for you and got the doctor to immediately check your brain and get you a scan for possible blockage of the thinking area of the brain because it was not possible with that percentage for the Giants to do it.

Thats why they play the games - and the entire 4 quarters :bricks:

Now the record stands at 80-3 - Fu(king sucks that the 3rd loss had to come in THAT game of all games!!! :bricks:

Thank you for bringing this up, the loss wasn't hard enough without that little tidbit.

80 wins/82 tries = 97.6%, not 99.96%. :)

Seriously, though, it's telling that in the last seven seasons, every other team has blown at least seven fourth-quarter leads.

What I have had a real hard time getting over is that if they had held on against the Colts and the Giants we would be walking around with 5 rings.

5!!!

Ahhh, what are ya gonna do? Guess I'll just keep on drinkin' and waitin' for next February!:rocker:

I'm guessing the Miami meltdown in '04, Colts in AFCCG and SB 42????

I was thinking about this stat during the game. We actually gave up 2 fourth quarter leads in the super bowl. But that's right -- it's happened just once in the regular season since 2001, but now twice in the playoffs in consecutive years.

Just to give you an indication of how amazing it is, the patriots were losing 5 times in the 4th quarter this year, and only lost 1 of those games. Unfortunately, it was the big one.

it would be a lot cooler of a stat if those 2 losses weren't so damn depressing.

LOL... now we're 80-3. GODDAMMIT.

I kept saying, "Just get us to the 4th qtr with a lead and Bill will slam the door shut of the Giants." I did not think the Giants were going to score any TDs that day. They sucked on offense.

If you really want some salt in the wound, both of those losses were to 12.5 point underdogs.

And those were 2 of the 3 most embarrassing losses in Brady's career. Christ can we lose a game without it being so catastrophic?

Not to be facetious, but think about how extraordinarily well the Patriots have played these last seven years to get to the point where that's even a plausible question. :)

It's catastrophic in NFL annals, not just Patriot lore.

The loss to Miami was the first time in NFL history that a team that had 10+ wins over it's opponent and LOST the game.
