Which of the guys that ended upon IR were the missing piece to the puzzle that was supposed to have resulted in a Championship...

Whose injury dealt a blow to New Englands championship run more - Morris or Colvin?

I'll say Colvin because this offense was primarily a passing one anyway and our front defensive 3 absolutely sucked in pressuring the QB starting from the next week after Colvin's injury right thru to the SB,Colvin was our pass rushing threat and Adalius Thomas was a non factor as well in the pass rushing area for most of the latter part of the season

Both were huge.

I'm going with Sammy. San Diego wouldn't have been close and the Giants game would have been won comfortably.

Colvin for me. I loved the way Sammy ran but Kool Aid did fine when given the chance. Colvin's speed was missed as was the better athleticism in the middle that Thomas has.

well lets see, Sammy Morris was replaced by a younger, faster, better RB who caught fire and had a bunch of great games down the stretch.

Colvins playing time was filled by older, slower, worse LB's.

hmmm, tough call

Sammy ran hard and fast and hit holes with speed, no dancing...

he would have brought a more positive attempt to balance the playcalling in the SB.

Maroney's 2.5 YPC in the Super Bowl officially put out his fire and had me wishing Morris was in the game.

Colvin. The loss of Colvin weakened at least two positions, possibly three. With AD moving outside, Bruschi had to move to the strong-side which isn't his best position with Seau taking over that spot. Both guys would have served the team better splitting time rather than starting. AD also was inconsistent outside because he spent the entire preseason and most of the the year inside and was not as up to speed with the outside. Vrabel even got more special teams.

Maroney had two outstanding games during the playoffs. Between him and Faulk shining, I don't know how much Morris would have gotten on the field. Also, I don't know if he would have been any more effective running as Maroney since we got dominated in the trenches on offense.

Is this a joke? Of course it was Colvin. Come on.

RB's are way, way, way overrated. their success depends largely on the oline blocking, and our oline got crushed in the SB.

Morris would have been no more effective.

Our Defense gave up 17 points...

Isn't that what that goal for a defense is... to give up 17 or less? And don't coaches thats why you strive to score 21, becuase your defense should strive to hold them to 17 or less...???

That being the case, we needed fresher legs, and faster skills to balance the play calling on the offensive side of the ball.

Re: Was Sammy Morris or Roosevelt Colvin missed more into the playoffs?

Our defense gave up 4 TDs in 3 games. We were fine.

After the initial drive Maroney was non-existent, and couldn't convert on a huge 3rd and 1.

Colvin was missed in the LB rotation as the extra snaps tired the guys down. Also the ability to then move A. Thomas around was taken away.

And yet we held the Giants to 3 points for 90% of the game...

By the time the Giants scored their 10th point... if we had some options on the ground, we might not have cared if they added another score.

Moroneys dancing was horrible against that speed defense... when he hit holes, he had a few solid 8 and 9 yard runs.

How many more 1st downs would we have gotten if he just quit dancing and just tried to push the pile...

ok this thread is officially awful. anybody who think we missed our backup RB more than our 2nd BEST LB simply doesn't know anything about football

Okay, but when Morris went down he was not the back up. Maroney was. We lost our only effective power runner, who also happens to be a better blocker than Maroney. Maroney averaged 2.5 ypc. I think Morris would have given us a better isnide game and better pass blocking.

On the defensive side, AD played a great game. Shut down the run and was our most effective LB running down Manning. I cannot recall another LB even getting a hand on him.

The answer to the question is that both guys were sorely missed. In such a close game where the outcome could have turned on any one of at least a half dozen plays, little improvements are huge.

your such an idiot. watch SB at all? OL was great wasnt it. jackass

Re: Was Sammy Morris or Roosevelt Colvin missed more into the playoffs?

Honestly, the way our O-line played, I'm surprised Maroney got as many yards.

The kid was running like he could pick up the team on his back and carry us to 19-0... but he just didn't get the blocking when he needed it.

Sammy by far.

You're* such an idiot. You didn’t even make a typo, you failed to realize the word was a contraction, we’re talking 1st grade here. With a childish “jackass” comment at the end to boot. Nice. Calling others idiots? Oh the irony…

But hey, you just keep on keeping on. With your Miami avatar, inability to use skills you should have learned in 1st grade and personal insults to other board members.

Seven thousand posts, yet still no depth or value to them. Bravo.

we missed both, but definitely colvin more without him are pressure on the qb dissapeared. Colvin forces teams to keep backs in to block and he allows Mike Vrabel to get all those sacks he had at the beginning of the year. I do not have stats but when colvin went down Vrabel became much more pedestrian on defense. I think we need another outside rusher for when colving gets injured next season so there will not be such a drop off in pressuring opposing teams qbs.
