Check out our 53 man roster (I include Wright and Moore)

CB: Hobbs, Spann, Richardson, Mixon

and don't go looking to rob from the safeties.

What about Chad Scott?? Is he a FA?? I know IR..but I thought he signed a 2 year contract..

Yes, looking at the depth chart now is worthwhile to determine needs but with FA yet to start, the #7 pick in the draft, the rest of our picks (without the #1) and an extra high #3, the idea of being concerned is silly.

We have a need at CB for sure. It will get filled, hopefully well.

This was his second year, he's a UFA.

I read he will be a free agent this year. Someone had a list in another thread. Besides, he's really a backup anyway. Of course, you can say that about damn near every CB on our roster once Asante leaves. :(

I know what you mean. People are always saying "Let's move Meriweather over to CB". Ummm, he was there for like 3 days in training camp. He is a safety, guys.

Unfortunately, the time has come to be concerned. Besides Asante,

there are two other good cornerbacks in free agency, Marcus Trufant

and Nnamdi Asomugha. Both will probably be retained by their teams.

Too expensive anyway. Among the others, our own Randall Gay may

be the best of a poor lot. The one good thing is that the draft is deep

with good cornerbacks. This year the Pats should be able to draft a couple

but who wants to start rookies? Scott Pioli and Bill Belichick will have to

perform a little of their magic to rebuild our cornerback corps.

One of the, if NOT THE BIGGEST area of concern going into next year.....Hobbs should be sent packing ....or brought in for Nickel package only....when he has HELP.....Please never let this team put him anywhere ONE ON ONE again.......Spann...no....Richardson....No.....Mixon?....who?......Harrison may not be back.....Sanders is good....Merriweather should be even better next year.......Andrews is a potsmoker and questionable....ventrone is good on special teams.....where is Wilson and gay on this list......both are questionable....so Yes.....we have issues there and LB to address in FA and draft.....also would like a few more options other than Light and Kaczur on OL......

Chad scott is cooked....you think Hobbs got burned badly? Scott's ashes would have covered the field.......

Hobbs is nowhere near as bad as many make him out to be. It's too bad, because he's one of the more outspoken players and has some good leadership qualities. Fans ought to give him more respect. He shut down Plax in the SB until bad defensive playcalling left him on an island in the critical play of the game. Not his fault.

Where are gay and wilson? free agents both!

You want more options than Light and Kaczur on the OL? Well you might look to deserving probowler Mankins or deserving probowler Koppen.

Agree completely. If people really hate Hobbs this much, they're going to have to bite the bullet. I see absolutely no scenario in which Ellis Hobbs is not one of the two starting CBs for the Patriots in 2008. For those advocating he be "sent packing", I think you need to look at the dearth of quality guys we have. I would be absolutely stunned at this point if the first pick (either at 7 or trading down) isn't a corner. For me, that guy is Talib from Kansas, who is tall (thank god) and athletic, and a very versatile player. If we want to take another corner, take a look at Rogers-Cromartie, who is a very similar player to his cousin (who we've become quite familiar with) if maybe not quite as refined yet.

I can't agree with either of these. That was Hobbs worst play of the year...hopefully next year his worst play of the year is before the last drive of the Super Bowl. He rarely gets beat, he usually is very good about keeping the play in front of him.

Mike Richardson looked decent in preseason, for a rookie. I thought he had a solid game against Keary Colbert. vs the Panthers. And he was the one DB besides Zbikowski at ND worth a damn. I'd like to see what he can do this year.

Actually he's a lot better than the no nothings who rip him would have folks believe. They must be Felger's demographic.

He outplayed Asante on Sunday. Covering the #1 WR and playing with a sports hernia. He had the only pick of the game, 2 more passes defensed than Asante, had a key stop in run support (while Asante got run over on that first drive - and by the smaller RB) and they each gave up a TD - only Hobbs gave his up on an island with no help as an ill advised blitz failed.

Felger was torching Hobbs again today for giving up the completion to Toomer as he got away with a push off to the face mask. Only trouble with that argument is, the play was negated a couple of plays later when Ellis picked Eli off.

People are like sheep. The media leads and they follow. Two years ago Felger claimed Asante wasn't worth a bag of balls. Then he picked a bunch of scatter armed excuses for QB's and the talking heads fell in love with his picks. Once Asante got pronounced a shut down corner  everyone stopped looking at anything but his INTS.

He's a ballhawk who excells in zone when he's surrounded by talented players who do their job in a system that suits him. I think down the stretch even he began to realize that. If he's back it will be because others did too. Because there is no way BB is gonna pay this kid shut down money to cover #2's in zone. But I'm not holding my breath because there are a lot of easily seduced GM's in the NFL.

I would just like to point out that if you followed football at all this season, or want to go back and check it out -- plax has burned quite a few corners.
if you cut every corner that he's burned on a play there'd be a lot of empty secondaries around the league.

Why be stunned if our first pick isn't a corner? Belichick usually sees DB value in the 2nd-4th rounds. As someone else posted, I would look for our second and Oakland's third to be used on corners. Also, we could our third and fourth to move up in the second with either or both of these choices.

Well the question should be who is not playing corner

Assante Samual , who will be the Jets starting CB next yr..
