its a very important off season to say the least .the pats need to hit home runs with almost all their picks this year .

Not really. First two picks, I'd say yes. But they're not all going to leave, and remember--we never saw the offense at 100%.

the offense isn't what I'm worried about. they might not all leave but they are getting up there and will be gone soon. the pats need a strong draft class this year more than most .

When you really think about the youth on this team, only two players need to come on and become bigtime players.

Merriweather and Maroney need to start contributing as top rate starters. Otherwise, we're going to have a talent squeeze.

Next year is a huge year for Merriweather.

Agree about Brandon. He would give our defense the jolt of speed it needs. Would allow Rodney to play more of a Rover/Big Nickel instead of full-time starter. Meriweather and a good rookie cb would ease my concerns quite a bit. Would love to get an elite pass-rusher too. Not sure we can do all of the above.

These are the "Unrestricted" free agents according to Miguel's Free Agency page.
Troy Brown, WR
Tedy Bruschi, LB
Jabar Gaffney, WR
Randall Gay, CB
Larry Izzo, LB
Randy Moss, WR
Mel Mitchell, S
Lonie Paxton, LS
Asante Samuel, CB
Junior Seau, LB
Chad Scott, CB
Eugene Wilson, S

I had no idea that Bruschi was a free agent. I thought that he had another year left. It will be interesting to see how many of these guys return.

Considering they can't franchise Asante again.. The only other UFA who it would make any sense to slap the tag on is Randy Moss, but I don't think they would choose to go that route.. Would they? Certainly at the level he performed at last year, he's more than worth that money, but I think they'd rather get him signed longer term than risk pissing him off by franchising him.

I would think they would rather keep it short term for the kind of money that moss could comand, his age (not to old but getting there), and his off field stuff. The off field stuff I don't see as a big deal because he seemed to fit in so well but even if you say this was his best behaved years since he had Chirs Carter mentoring him he still had the issue.
The franchise tag may be the safest route and possibly cheapest too as he could easily get more than the average of the top 5.

According to Reiss who got his info from the NFL, Rashad Moore will be an UFA. I think Moore will be a RFA. He only has 3 accrued seasons.

I'll play...I would think Troy Brown would retire. But since I doubt we will have all of these WR's here next year, maybe he stays for one more year? He should be healthy.

Tedy and Gaffney should be resigned. I like Gaffney ALOT, he could have been the perfect #2 to Andre Johnson in Houston if he had someone not named David Carr throwing it to him. And Tedy coming back is no problem, he was great at the beginning of the season when they were rotating him with Junior and AD.

Gay, Chad Scott, and Eugene Wilson can go either way. I would like Randall Gay signed, I am neutral on the other two.

Moss and Asante are definates...Asante is as good as gone. Maybe to the Jets, maybe not. Either way, he will never wear a Pats uniform again.

There is no way Randy Moss is NOT in a Patriots uniform next year. I don't know why people think he will leave. He's happy, he's got the best QB in the game, and he is on a perrenial Super Bowl contender. He's not going to go to some crap team with a sh!tty QB for a few million more dollars. He was already in that situation and hated it.

The others I have no opinion on.
