I think the Pats O-Line is overrated. And i've felt this way since the season started. Brady is the BEST at moving around the pocket and avoiding sacks. So spare me the stats about how many times he was sacked this year, and using it to defend the O-Line.

I'm not saying they are bad. I think they are good and do a good job. But they are not the best in the league and anyone who thinks this is an idiot or Pats-hater.

The O-Line has been praised all year long to try and explain why Brady was so great this year. It's part of the deal where nobody can just call Brady great, there has to be an underlying reason (spygate, BB, Charlie Weis, the Line, etc.)
Nobody can just admit that he's the best.

The O-Line did do a good job in many games and they sure gave Brady plenty of time against Miami. They also did a good job against Cincinnati and some other teams with crappy pass rushes.

But when it came to teams that are known for blitzing or applying a lot of pressure on the QB, they weren't so hot.
I'm talking about Baltimore, Philadelphia, THE NEW YORK GIANTS, and San Diego.

I'm not just saying this b/c of the last game, even though they were atrocious. They knew all week what was going to happen and were still horrendous. Matt Light's false starts are beyond irritating.

I think they are probably a top 10 O-Line, but this crap about them being the best is a joke.

Do you think part of this is related to the way Brady goes way out of his way to praise them and make sure they get credit?

Light is OK, but he is no pro bowler, never felt he was. Kaczur is average at best. Koppen picked an awful time to have his worst game of the season.

I'm sure that is part of it. Brady is a great guy and gives them credit when he plays well, like any QB who is lucky enough to be in the NFL should.

He doesn't pull a Peyton Manning and say "we had some protection problems"

absolutely.

I feel that the 3 offensive linemen making the pro bowl had a lot to do with how well Brady played.

Light = VERY overrated. Gets overmatched alot.

Mankins = the best of the group. Don't can this guy.

Koppen = one of the better centers in the league, but, still overrated.

Neal = needs to be a backup. Not good enough to be a starter. He is a feel good story, but, he is a backup.

Kazcur = DEF. needs to be a backup. The weakest part of this group.

Light sucks. If it wasn't bad enough that he looked like a turnstile, he also screwed us Sunday with his stupid false start penalties. They need to move him over to the right side and get a real left tackle.

I said this for a few years now...

Yes his holding penalties and false starts are very irritating.

I hate having to see his red face walk back to the huddle after committing a penalty. You see this way too much.

what it the point of this thread?

do you think they should try to upgrade using the #7 pick? do you think they should replace some of the guys?

the point was just to explain that i think our offensive line is overrated. I'm sorry, i should have explained that better in the title.

I was wondering if anyone agreed.....

and yes, i think it might be nice if we upgrade it whether it be from the draft or a free agent.

Not be a Brady suck up, but when he does it, he is not just giving lip service like you see from Peyton, he really seems to believe. You could understand why some of the scribes might start believing it too.

The offensive line is good, obviously the did not have a good game, but I don't think you need to scrape it. The Giants d-line was just awesome on that day. If I remember correctly, the first Pats offensive play of the game was a fake end around, the three on-coming Giants never even considered going for the fake. I don't think they even care if the ball was handed off, they just wanted to hit Brady.

sure they're not the best in the league and ironically it was the media that was annointing them.

I think they are fune for next year. If you could develop another tackle or guard as an upgrade then that is great but I think they can get by with the who they have and have a top offense.

They need to put their efforts into defense. Defense wins championships and the Giants proved that.

Even though they had a pretty good season overall, there are not the best in the NFL. However, I don't even know what team has the best combonation of run blocking a pass blocking. With that said, I think the Pats can always improve the position. Maybe they will this offseason.

i agree with you. We havent had a franchise left tackle in decades, Light is right tackle quality. Jake Long would be nice right about now.

I agree, they were clearly overmatched and Light was antzy a few too many times...simply unexcusable in a game of that magnitude:(

Mankins is an all-pro, one of the best interior lineman in the game, even though I was disappointed on draft day '05 (stupid me!)

Anyone else think Pierre Woods also fumbled a spot on the 2008 roster? Cause I do..he clearly displayed a frightening lack of awareness and passion.

Keegs, I disagree with the offensive line being the scapegoats. They were constantly praised by other teams this year and were a large part of the offenses success. The Giants just had a tremendous game against them and made them look mediocre. Outside speed rushers like Mathis and Freeney are just bad matchups for them. If they have to use brute-force against huge D-linemen, they usually succeed. The Patriots just have to pick thier poison with either using smaller quick linemen or big pile-pushing linemen. Finding something of both is a rarity.

Pierre Woods should get cut for just that play, cant even hold on to a fumble. That cost us points and maybe even the game.

Agree!! They need more size, more beef and more nastiness on the O-line.
Light making the pro-bowl is a joke!

This is absurd. If anything Pierre should have been in on that last drive to rush the passer as AD was gassed.

The Pats created there own problem by not giving him legit snaps in all those blowouts.
