Brady, Moss to miss Pro Bowl
NFL.com

One day after a shocking loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Randy Moss have announced they will not play in the Pro Bowl game in Honolulu on Feb. 10.

The rosters for the 2008 Pro Bowl have been announced. See which players will make the trip to Hawaii.

Brady, who was sacked five times in the Super Bowl, had been bothered by an anke injury since the Patriots' AFC Championship game vs. the San Diego Chargers. The Patriots have not disclosed a reason for Moss' absence from the annual all-star game. He was not listed on the Patriots injury report leading up to the Super Bowl.

Brady will be replaced by Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson, who joins five other Browns players on the AFC Pro Bowl roster. Moss will be replced by Cincinnati Bengals wideout Chad Johnson, joining Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who was named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster on Dec. 18. Together they become the first pair of Bengals WRs to be named to the Pro Bowl in the same season.

Anderson was 10-5 as a starter and completed 298-of-527 passing for 3,787 yards with 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions for a 82.5 quarterback rating. Anderson finished the season tied for second in franchise history with 29 passing touchdowns, fifth in attempts (527), fifth in passing yards (3,787) and sixth in completions (298).

Tom Brady
Rating: 117.2
Comp. pct.: 68.9
TD/INT: 50/8
Yards: 4,806

Randy Moss
Receptions: 98
Yards: 1,493
TD: 23

"We're excited the Browns will have such a presence at the Pro Bowl this year," said Browns Senior Vice President and General Manager, Phil Savage. "Kellen (Winslow) has overcome so much in the past two years and is a real catalyst for our team. Derek (Anderson) became the starter under difficult conditions after week one and led us to ten wins and a 7-0 home record. Both will grow from this experience in Hawaii."

Anderson and Winslow join Browns kick returner Joshua Cribbs, wide receiver Braylon Edwards, long snapper Ryan Pontbriand and left tackle Joe Thomas as the first Browns players selected to the Pro Bowl since LB Jamir Miller was named during the 2001 season (2002 Pro Bowl).

The last time the Browns had six players named to the Pro Bowl was following the 1994 season when six Browns players went to Hawaii. The last Browns quarterback named to the Pro Bowl was Bernie Kosar in the 1987 season (1988 Pro Bowl) and the last Browns tight end named to the Pro Bowl was Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome in the 1985 season (1986 Pro Bowl).

Johnson caught 93 passes for 1440 yards and eight TDs in 2007. The 1440 receiving yards broke his own team season record (1432 in ’05), and he became the team’s all-time leader in receptions (559) and receiving yards (8365). The 93 catches marked his fourth career 90-catch season. He now has at least one catch in 92 consecutive games, one short of Carl Pickens’ team-record streak of 93.

Brady and Moss are both coming off record-breaking seasons in which Brady threw an NFL-record 50 touchdown passes, 23 of which went to Moss, who broke the previous record of 22 touchdown catches held by Jerry Rice.

Brady and Moss are both hurt. Why would they risk further injury?

Brady has turned down PB the past 3(?) times w/out this media cr@p being attached to the decision. I believe the first time he had a date at Pebble Beach and the other times injuries.

Brady is out because of his anke, and from what I have heard Moss hurt his ankle to. He appearntly was limping out of a press confrence.

Most player that experience any amount of success in the real season, HATE that game. It's not uncommon at all.

Nice try though D-bag

Nice to see Derek Anderson get to go.

I knew TB had an ankle injury but I didn't know Moss was hurt, too.
Any more information on that, anyone?

If they won and didn't go, would you be saying the same thing?

The Pro Bowl is not just for the fans, it's also for the players. I don't understand why these guys are crucified for not going when it means that deserving guys who might otherwise never get the chance will get to attend.

The Pro Bowl has never meant much to Tom Brady at all, and I'm sure it's the thrill of a lifetime for Derek Anderson. If you ask me, these guys should be lauded for stepping aside when their heart isn't in it, not criticized.

I wasnt criticizing at all... just saw the story and was a bit surprised by it thats all...

not trying to be a D-Bag

This isn't the first time Tom Brady has skipped. They shouldn't go hurt, and it's nice to see other guys get to go (Especially DA).

And maybe next time phrase your thread differently than "What the Heck is this Crap?" if you're not trying to get people going. That conveys disgust, not surprise. Just saying.

Crap was in reference to the article not Brady or Moss.

Last time Brady skipped is because the league's coaches and players didn't vote him in.

They didn't think he was one of the best QBs in the league.

This happened last year.

He was supposed to go as an alternate, but he had already made other plans.

Is it the content in the article? U are sounding like a d-bag cuz it could only mean that u'r calling Brady / Moss wusses or primadonnas...explain

Fair enough. Well, then from one DC resident to another, enjoy the 65 degree weather. :D (And the fact that our primary votes might actually count for something!)

Roger that my friend... roger that!!

Brady all but said he wasn't going to the pro-bowl before the game. It's a case of not so much being a sore loser, but feeling the same about the pro-bowl as we do-----It's a Joke!

I can't bear watching that game, the only part I ever liked was when they introduced the teams a few years ago and I was like where are the Pats, then they opened a big stage and Willie, Ty and Big Sey walked out by themselves. I think the honor of being chosen is cool and desirable but the actual game is boring and more of a ritual than a desirable viewing event.

People rag on Redskins fans because of that game, and yes the teams were mismatched. However, I can say from personal experience living for the last 5 years in the heart of Redskins country that the Redskins are a proud franchise with great fans. They really rallied around their team after the death of Sean Taylor, and the team in turn brought their game to another level. 52-7 or not, if the two teams played in Week 17, the Redskins would have given us a better game, I assure you. That said, as long as Dan Snyder can't get out of his own way they're going to be steering more towards Raiders territory than Patriots territory.
