Our Finest Moment - for both players and fans

I know these last few days have been difficult for many people. Indeed nothing tests one's character more than adversity - and I'm proud to see both among the majority of fans on this website and amongs the Patriots players themselves, how well everyone is dealing with a very difficult loss.

Maybe I've missed the exception, but the rule amongst the Patriots players I've seen has been nothing but good sportsmen who have done nothing but respect their opponents and offer congratulations. Compare that with other team's who's players grouse and make excuses and claim that they are the better team and who's "classiest" players claim they'd win 9 games out of ten...

The vast majority of the fans here too seem to accept the fact that the Giants played a great game, and by and large earned their Super Bowl rings and deserved to win on Sunday.

Compare that to the fans and trolls we always see from other teams who have every conceivable reason why they were "robbed" of a victory. And compare that to the high number of Giants trolls who apparently don't know how to be gracious winners - which really makes them losers.

Yes - I dare say this might be our finest moment - both for the players, and the fans - not because we won, but because of the way all have behaved following a loss.

Trolls will say this is all spin or rationalization, but I really and truly am proud of our team and our fans.

I agree...I could NOT go to see the team last night...and having ONLY 200 fans..sad..the real fans sjould have been there!!! But you are right..let the Strahan's and Pierce's and big mouths in other cities be what they are..They won and it's ONTO 08!!

Can anyone tell me if there is there even one Patriot player who has made a sour grapes type comment regarding the Giants?

Not that I'm spending a lot of time watching SportsCenter these days but I haven't seen one.

I, however, fall a little short. I mean, I have no sour grapes excuses, or anything like that. But let's just say that if I came across Eli Manning and Michael Strahan tied to railroad tracks with a train bearing down on them, I would have no idea who to ignore first.

I agree this shows what a classy organization we truely are. I'm just thinking about the Chargers after we beat them last year, and how much hatred we had for them and their fans. Atleast the Giants can say they beat one of the classiest organizations in the league.

No way would I say the Giants played a great game. They were the better team in the game, yes. A great team ? Absolutely not.

It'd have to be Strahan given his classless remarks... I'm not saying there's anything wrong with fans being devastatingly disappointed - its just I've seen exceptionally little excuse making around here.

Maybe Brady's ankle was still giving him problems - but Patsfans know football and they know injuries are part of the game. They don't use injuries as excuses to disparage the accomplishments of other teams.

Most fans here lament that we had opportunities to put the game away and did not. They aren't happy about it but they don't delude themselves either like we've seen so many players and fans do from other teams.

Heck - Kurt Warner is still trying to tell himself and the world that he should be the MVP of the 2001 Super Bowl and Rams fans are with him on it.

I'm proud I don't root for a pathetic team like that.

This loss really shows what the players and fans are made of - they are strong, proud, classy, and I have no doubt, resilient.

Joe, I'd have to say Strahan at this point too. But the idea of sparing a MAnning, even for a few short seconds.....*shudders*. If I did my own mother might disown me. She is devastated by the loss, as is my dad. The problem is he still has sports talk radio on and she has to listen to that crap and it really upsets her. Today she was frothing at the mouth about Colin Cowherd's poll that said women would rather date Eli than Tom because he was "the marrying kind."

I told her there was plenty to be upset about. But not that. I did get kind of a smile out it though. It's good when family knows where you are coming from.
