He's been our most consistent player on defense all seasom, imho. Constantly getting penetration to either disrupt a run play, or force the QB out of the pocket. I don't recall any consistent push up the middle from our defense. The only time we got pressure was from Thomas from the outside in the 2nd half. And although Giants never really broke a run, they consistently got positive yardage and had minimal negative yardage plays.

If there was a one guy I thought we could count on to perform on defense, it was Vince.

So what happened?

The Giants averaged 3.5 YPC, Vince did his job. He'll push the pocket some but if you're looking for consistent QB pressure, Vince isn't the guy to expect it from.

Also Vrabel. Like they said on WEEI today, when was the last time you didn't hear Vrabel's name mentioned in a game?

He was double and triple teamed all game.

Unfortunately Vrabel only had a sack in one game (he got 3 in that one) since Colvin got hurt. He's actually been fairly quiet for some time in terms of big plays.

More like wher was Mike Vrabel. Was there even a sighting of him ? Honestly, our D philosophy needs to be more attacking and pressuring (dont give me that we finished #2 in sacks). Since our DL or LB do not attack or have speed to blitz, the DB keep getting toasted.

Major overhaul needed to bring speed on D

he always is, he has multiple gap responsibility. never stopped him from being a factor in the past

he had 3 tackles and any yardage Giants got running was outside. Wilfork shut the middle down imo

48 tackles on season. 16 games. thats a 3 tackle/game average. didnt run well up middle, great job Vince

absolutely ... Big Daddy was a factor yesterday.

a factor all right. factored into a big whiff on eli when he was forced up and out of the pocket and then whipped it downfield for the most important play of the game

That would be Adalius who had first crack and Green and Seymour each had a good shot at him.

Edit: I saw the play during the game broadcast (and I was in shock during the replays) and saw the highlight once to see what happened on this play.

On a good note, AD looked great rushing the passer on that last drive, he was causing some problems for them. I'd like to see him with a full season at OLB next year.

AD was the only Patriot lineman getting a consistent pass rush on the final drive. He bullrushed David Diehl back in to Manning of several occasions. I think fatigue final set in and slowed down the rest of the DL.

He was being double teamed all night. Our line played rather well for the most part. Those three have never been anything other than bulls who don't let the O-line get push. It was the rest of the D I had problems with, and even then, the defense played as well as we could have asked them to play.

Wilfork isn't a pass rusher. You see him in on pass plays, but he is commonly taken out for them. Same situation when Ted Washington was here. They clog up the middle. When there is a pass, they want to keep two OL busy.

The philosphy of Bellichick has been that sacks are overrated. This is because, players who get a lot of sacks are often completely out of the other plays. BB wants pressure, if a sack happens - great, but he wants his linemen involved up front. The problem with this is we haven't seen consistent pressure in a long time. Seymour, Warren, Green and Vabrel weren't causing any panic for Eli.

When they did send a safety or CB to rush, the play was going the other way or it was picked up without any problem. Seemed like there were a lot of wrong calls on the last drive.

Overall, if you told me the Giants were going to score 17 points, I'd be happy.

But I have a problem with a defense (no matter what happened before) given the lead with under 3 minutes to go and not holding.

Blame the players, BB, Pees, Pepper, anyone associated with defense. That last drive should never happened.
