Just reported that Ellis Hobbs will go into surgery shortly for a Sports Hernia and Groin Injury that he has been reported to have had and played with most of 2007 season.

Rarily was he on the injury list,Wonder if this was a secret for himself and close friends/family or did the organization let him continue to play with this?

Nah, he pulled his groin on the Giant touchdown when Burress juked him out of his shorts...

who cares. his problems were mental. not physical

He needs something to explain how he got toasted so many times this year!!

I am sure we will learn of several players that will have injuries...not really THAT big of surprise...it happens it's football...that he played says a LOT about him..the team gave it their all...and fell short..

Doesn't matter with Hobbs. His play is the same if he's healthy. Too small gets out muscled and is out of position a lot.

Either someone is an idiot for leaving a guy banged up one on ******* one with Plaxico.

Or, Hobbs has been the weakness all year in the secondary and caused us to lose because he didn't show up the final play of a huge game.

Hobbs is fine as our second CB. Sure I'd like to have two better ones but we could do worse. Much more scary is how we'll replace Samuel; while his play was disappointing to me this year he'll still be very hard to replace.

Please explain, this ought to be riveting.

whats their to explain? Its not like Plaxico outjumped him on that last play or took advantage of his size. The mental side of it was reading the play and reacting to it. He bit very hard which has nothing to do with a physical aspect of him or the game. He guessed wrong..guessed is the word..he didnt play it smart. He went running in to get a pick and got beat. Had he closed a little slower..he could've tackled him if it was indeed a slant or he would've been in much better position to recover. he took himself out of the play

you tell me..did that play involve Hobb's speed, jumping ability, size or being physical with Plaxico? no

did it involve making the right read which is all in the brain, yes.

Marcus Trufant would be my choice to replace Asante - IF he leaves

i want to see the scheme get replaced. I dont like the idea of cover 3 with our CBs off 12 yards.

I want Nnamdi Asomugha. Hes really the 2nd best CB behind Champ Bailey..and hes 6"2.

all 3 CBs, Samuel, Asomugha and Trufant will get paid a lot though

Hobbs should not have been matched up 1 on 1 on Burress. Not his fault, he has his limits, its up to the coach to put him in the right position and that sure as hell wasn't it.

i still dont understand whats wrong with the matchup with Hobbs on him. Samuel is only 2 inches taller while Hobbs jumps about 10 inches higher. Plus its not like Hobbs's "limitations" prevented him from making a play. All mental part of the game. He wasnt prepared, guessed wrong.

Hobbs...Injured?

Sorry, if this was already reported

I just heard on the Afternoon Blitz (sirius) that Hobbs has a sport related hernia and groin injury that will require surgery in the offseason. It wasn't an injury from last night, it's from earlier in the season was the report. Anyone else hear this?

If true, I guess it would explain his kick return duties being taken away and his real slide in coverage towards the end.

we need to upgrade the pass rush. the pats had major problems in the playoffs get to the qb with a 4 man rush and even a 5 man rush. that is what did them in.

we need speed at linebacker!!!!!!

so, he will have surgery for a sports hernia just to cover it up?

Judging from some of your responses I can tell most of you have never had a groin injury or sports hernia. Let me tell you the fact that he was even on the field is very impressive as it can be difficult to walk let alone change direction and be explosive the way a corner needs to. I've battled with those types of injuries before and I have to give him a lot of respect for playing with them.

And for everyone who is trashing him, he was the only one who held on to the ball and capitalized with an INT when he had the chance.

Read? It was Man Coverage. Inside leverage, do NOT get beat to the inside. Plax faked the Slant, and Hobbs has to honor it, or it's six that way, too.

It was a sell out blitz by Pees, and it hung Hobbs out to dry on Plax. Great call by the Giants and a bad one by the Pats. The blitz doesn't get home, and Eli just tosses it up.

Where's the mental error?
