Eckel is 5th??? Wow. How did that happen? (just under $6 M)

Bob G

He signed a 2-year deal, as did Gorin a few years ago. Both years included LTBE's. The 2007 money will be buried in the calculation of the adjustment to the 2008 cap. The 2008 money will go away when Eckel signs a restructured contract.

This is incorrect, MG. Its a LTBE bonus that won't get earned. Because it won't be earned, the money gets credited to the Pats on the 2008 cap. This will help to offset many of the NLTBE bonuses that were earned this year by the Pats going as far as they have.

Thanks again Miguel.

Thanks, Miguel.

I'm pledging $25 for the Bread of Life. Anyone care to join me?

Thanks.
Change Title above chart from 2007.

Miguel, I stickied this thread and think it should stay up until after the FA period is over.

I know that you have your own link, but it may make it easier to view as you update it when moves are made.

If you don't want it "Stickied", then just release it.

I looks like we have some work to do.

The cutting of Stallworth is roughly offset by the cap hit of the #7 pick. The unearned LTBEs offset by the earned NLTBEs. The signing of the ERFAs, the balance of the draft class, and the escalators gets us to the region of the cap number or a little beyond ($116m). That gets us roughly to 51 (depending on the draftees), not including the RFA's, Wright and Brown.

We can save Colvin's $5.5m base salary by cutting him, or save a few million by resigning him. We could save a few million by extending/restructuring Tom. Harrison's $3m salary would be trimmed if he retired or was cut.

That doesn't seem to give us a lot of wiggle room and there doesn't seem to be a lot of significant options. Nickel and dime stuff remains, however.

Trading back from #7 would be highly desirable. I'd be willing to take a pass at Moss, too in favour of defensive improvement and a cheaper option at wideout.

Interesting times begin. That season was not enjoyable for me. Too much stress. Let's go back to winning Superbowls and forget about this perfection/greatest team ever BS. Let's go back to flying slightly under the radar with a solid ball control offense and a fast, physical defense.

Stallworth's 2008 cap hit $6.53 million versus Adrian Peterson's 2007 cap hit of $2,040,000 is not "roughly offset", IMO.

I was going off average cap hit over the course of the contract as listed in this thread here. Sorry for not being more precise. I think we mostly understand that cap numbers from year to year can be manipulated to achieve more flexibility. It appears that we need flexibility more this year than we have in some recent years.

The problem with those numbers is that they presume that Peterson would reach each and every escalator in his contract.

I see. Do you know roughly what percentage of these first round deals is made up of escalators and future bonuses (ie what percentage of these deals could be walked away from if the player doesn't come close to his potential and is more or less a bust)?
