I almost wish the NFL would have taken away #7

I know that it is early in the process and we still have the superbowl to look forward to, but I cannot stand reading all the giant hype this week so I did peak at the draft a little and to say the least I am unimpressed with what is going to be available at #7.

I just do not see any player at #7 that is going to be an impact player for the PAtriots. I also think that the pick is going to be very hard to trade away because unless somebody makes a big impact at the combine and personal workouts, nobody is going to want to trade up for what is going to be available.

Every player at #7 that will be available has major question marks in their game. Guys like Gholston and Long would be making a position change, not something you want to spend #7 money on. Rivers is a good linebacker, but he is not that dominant to warrant #7. Jenkins and Mckelvon seem like good corners, but played at smaller schools and still have holes in their games.

At #32(hopefully) guys like Cason, Cromartie, and Conners would all most likely be available at a lot cheaper price with about the same amount of talent.
What a year to have a top ten pick. Am I wrong to think this?

The math alone makes it wrong (anyone we want at 32 will be there at 7), but there's still a lot of time left for players to show their worth.

#7 gives us a really good chance to trade down even if we take "bad" value. It's still a highly paid pick but nithing like the top 2 or 3. #7 is affordable, we'll either get the rare chance to be a SB team (hopefully winner) picking in the top ten or trade out but I don't think we'll go wrong either way.

Edit - it looks like #10 is actually the best spot in terms of dollar drop. We could swing a minor trade down or just let a couple teams draft ahead of us. That's a dangerous game, I guess, but Belichick does what he wants

It's a matter of being able to trade down, which is what I think they will do. It's very hard to trade out of the top few spots, and IMO #7 puts us in prime position to make a deal.

I share your sentiments...when it's all said and done i don't think the Patriots will be selecting #7 on Draft Day 2008.

I don't totally agree with this because having the 7th pick provides an opportunity to trade down and maximize the depth of this draft through trade downs, but you are correct if you assume we cannot trade out of the 7th pick because there isn't much elite talent

There is NOTHING to agree with. You want #32 instead of #7 ???? :bricks:

Worst case ? Give the guy who takes the slip up three names and have him wait several picks with other teams jumping us. With multiple names we wouldn't get caught with a landslide moving ahead of us.
