Legendary Packers coach Vince Lombardi once said; "Winning isn't everything; it's the ONLY thing." I have officially reached the point where I am ready to embrace that ideology with regard to my football team and admit that from this moment forward I don't care how they win anymore. I don't care how they won in the past. I don't care how they win now. And I don't care how they win in the future.
I don't care about fairness. I don't care about sportsmanship. I don't care about perception, reputation, or our standing with the rest of NFL fandom. All I care about now is winning.
I hereby completely repudiate the notion of "it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game." Where NFL football is concerned, that belief is, at best, naive. At worst, it's just plain bullsh*t. The hypocrisy has to stop.
There is no morality in pro football and if you believe there is I have some oceanfront property for you in the Florida Everglades. But you already know this. Just like you know that the human body cannot do the things being put on display every week in the NFL without a little bit of help. You don't honestly believe that Rodney Harrison and Shawne Merriman are the only NFL players to have used performance enhancing drugs the past few years do you? C'mon. Deep down you know that even Saint Dungy himself would pilfer the opposing teams playbook (in a New York minute) if he knew he could do so without getting caught. You know it and I know it. That's just the way it is America. Deal with it.
Spying, signal stealing, etc. have been a part of pro football forever. When greats such as George Allen and Tom Landry engaged in it, the talking heads laughed and called it gamesmanship. But when BB does it the same people are screaming bloody murder and painting him as synonymous with Jeffrey Dahmer. I say Eff them all. Just win baby! It doesn't matter how anymore.
