Are these your own thoughts or did they come from somewhere else?
I would be surprised if they took a DT with the first pick. I fully expect it to be a defensive pick, but I'd expect them to go LB or CB, quite possibly after trading down a bit lower.

We may lose Randall Gay, Chad Scott, and Asante Samuel to free agency.
For this reason, I hope we draft at least a couple of cornerbacks as
early picks.
No plagiarism involved. I think that Ellis may be a stretch to fall but if he does then I think that we take him there. I think that FA will be a bigger role for the DB this off season plus this is just a kickoff mock.
Reality may be a trade out of this pick but I am assuming that we stay put in this mock.
Haha, I wasn't accusing you of plagiarism. I was just curious if it was part of a larger mock that projected the other teams, or just your thoughts for the Pats.
Ditto. This draft must assume major FA activity at CB?

This one I agree with particularly. It seems like a lot of teams are going to be looking for the "Next Hester" going forward, and if you're looking to the draft than I think Johnson is the best of the bunch in that regard. I'd really love to see the Patriots bring some continuity to their kick returns - tired of seeing a different guy back there almost every time.
Having seen him play every single home game of his college career I can tell you that he is REALLY fast, great hands, makes could cuts, a great KR/PR, and has never gotten into any trouble during college.

I could live with this mock if it happens in real life.
I don't know why everyone is so down on the drafting of a DL guy. I think Ellis can play in a 3-4 and he was easily the best player at the senior bowl this year and had an outstanding career at USC. If Parcells took him #1, I would not be too terribly surprised.
This draft is great. We can just make some corners out of thin air next year
The Pats are going to make silk purses out of sow's ears
from Tim Mixon, Mike Richardson, and Antwain Spann.
I think that Richardson will surprise a lot of people next year. That's not to say he'd going to be a starter. There's a good chance the Pats pick up at least ONE CB in free agency.
I agree, and considering the CB depth in this draft, we'll undoubtedly add one from that crop. This would give us Richardson/FA/Rookie competing for Samuel's role. And of course add Gay to the mix should he choose to remain (my hope).
