Did anyone else see the interview last night?

Felger asked him some good stuff and he was pretty open with where he stood and what happened with almost everything.

Q: When do you think your time is done (here in new England)?
A: He said it all depends on his quality of life with him and his family and he said that quality is very high. Made a joke about looking around and seeing they are at the super bowl. He doesnt see anything changing that right now.

Q: On players that we signed, is it a new trend? Will we continue to go after the Adailus Thomas' of the FA world?
A: He pretty much said there have been a ton of guys in which we have pursued and they have chose other deals. Not every person they go after makes it to the news. Felger brought up Derek Mason and Pioli said that was a great example of how it got out and that Baltimore and NE both had competitive offers and Mason took what was best for him and his family and Scott wished him the best. The whole process just seemed like he was trying to say if theres someone Bill and Scott like in FA they will pursue that person whether we find out about it or not.

This past offseason was almost like the perfect storm. He said almost everyone they contacted wanted to be on this team. Morris, Brady, Thomas, Kelley, Donte and even Welker. Moss was seperate since he was a trade during the second day of the draft they had no intentions of going after him in the beginning of the offseason. Welker was a target they had all along and when the talked to Welker over the phone he really wanted to get started with this club.

Q: On Randy Moss, the deal, the trade and his character.
A: Everyone the Pats talked to gave stunning reviews of Moss and what he is all about. Pioli said Moss wants to win and thats all he cares about and hasnt seen anything to change his mind. The deal worked out because Randy had to be the one who wanted to come here and wanted to re-do his own deal to play here for the team. Scott thinks it worked out great and thinks very highly of Randy. Felger quickly jumped on the Moss wants to retire a Patriots thing to which Pioli responded. We'd love to keep Randy here.

Quick EDIT:

Was also asked about Parcells in Miami in which he had nothing but kind words for him and wished him the best. Admitted its just another good team to watch out for because Parcells has quite a few "nods" in his belt.

Also extremely supportive of Dmitriov (right spelling?) the scouting director who just went to the Falcons.

Yeah, I saw it, Pioli is very impressive and it's just great that he likes being in NE so much. How long he and Belichick stay together here is one of the great mysteries - for whatever reason Pioli seems to have no ego issue with not getting credit as full fledged GM so my guess is that both he and Belichick will be here through Belichick's contract of, I think it was, 2013.

I wouldnt say he gets no recognition i mean didnt he win GM of the year or whatever the award is called two years in a row?

The man is probably one of the most respected men in the game and trust me hes more well known than we think. Within league circles that is.

Isn't it Comcast Sportsnet now?

You're probably right, it's likely my perception. In fact I was listening to a national sports talk show yesterday (ESPN or Fox Sports, not sure which) and they had Jim Mora on and they were giving most of the credit to Pioli for player acquisition - so while we know it's very much a partnership between Scott and Bill my perception may be completely opposite of how others see it.

Thanks for the highlights!

This just ties in with the interview Jonathan did yesterday on WEEI talking about Bill. Said he loves coaching too much to move upstairs entirely and they believe he will be here for a long time.

Thanx for the report!

To begin with, you can't hardly stop talent from moving on
to paint on a bigger canvas.
So the smart play is to enthusiastically congratulate your "graduates".
After all, then they stay in your virtual network
(think "coaching tree").

Best of all, having a reputation for guys going on to bigger & better ...
helps you recruit young comers
who yearn to go on to bigger & better.

Sorta like ballplayers who
just want to win a Super Bowl.

It sounds like the gravy train is going to continue for the Patriots. By 2010, they could .........

Ah! No Comment. ;)
